In case you missed it, a growing number of rabidly pro-Trump pastors and evangelists have insisted that God is about to return Trump to the White House. While a lot of us have pointed at these so-called “prophets” and laughed, they’re delivering a message that is no laughing matter. For instance, one of them, Johnny Enlow, actually called for a military coup to return Trump to power.
That’s why I was surprised to see one of the most rabid pro-Trump prophets of all, Frank Amedia, indicate that Trump had lost the anointing God had bestowed on him—and probably deserved it. Amedia, for those who don’t know, was the founder and leader of POTUS Shield, an ad hoc network designed to cover Trump in prayer. Its leadership was a virtual who’s-who of leading lights in the New Apostolic Reformation, the overtly fascist offshoot of the religious right that believes it can bring about the Second Coming by taking over the world.
Right Wing Watch noticed that on Sunday, Amedia sat down with Charisma magazine founder and publisher Steve Strang and gave his take on why Trump lost. Drum roll, please—he didn’t give enough credit to God. Right Wing Watch got a clip.
Amedia said that while Trump had fulfilled all of the “assignments” he’d been given after his upset win, he didn’t give God proper credit for it. According to Amedia, it got to the point that he and his compatriots got tired of Trump incessantly “talking about himself” and “promoting himself”—and God did too.
Um, Frank? If that’s true, then why did you lend your support to Dutch Sheets’ “Stop the Steal” prayer call in December? You even declared that the church had the power to make the “witchcraft and curse” intended to make Biden president “bounce back (BOOMERANG) back on the sender.” And now you’re shocked, SHOCKED that you got conned by a guy who is well known to be a narcissist? Better late than never, I suppose.
At least Amedia looks a lot better than another Trumpvangelical prophet, Nathan French. Yesterday, French, who pastors Rock Revival Center in Tacoma, dropped by “Elijah Streams,” a podcast run by the NAR-aligned Elijah List. Right Wing Watch got a clip.
French told host Steve Schultz that earlier in the day, God told him he was going to restore Trump to office because Trump was still a “reigning champion.” He claimed this was evidence God had chosen Trump, and opposing him was tantamount to opposing God.
French also had a warning for Twitter and Facebook—they were going to pay a stiff price for deplatforming the Donald. He claimed that God had told him Big Tech was going to “crumble if they continue to go against God’s anointed,” and that God was poised to “knock out” anything and anyone who opposed the coming “Third Great Awakening”—which included the return of Trump.
So in other words, it seems we’re getting mixed messages from the Trumpvangelicals. While some of them are starting to realize they were taken for a ride, others are still marching double-time into fascism wrapped in the cross.
