From Nicole Lafond at TPM:
By now we know that the meeting between Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) did not quite go as the Republican leader hoped.
Politico reported this morning that McCarthy attempted to reason with Greene, explaining the difficult situation she was putting the conference in by giving Democrats reason to object to committee assignments. After being warned by Democratic leadership earlier this week to deal with the MTG problem or Dems would do it for him, the Republican leader reportedly gave the controversial representative a choice: denounce QAnon publicly and apologize for past hateful rhetoric or remove yourself from the panels instead of forcing your colleagues to do it for you.
Greene clearly didn’t take the leader up on his offer, tweeting that she would “never back down” and that she owes Democrats “no apologies.”

As CNN points out, the only other alternative McCarthy has here is to remove Greene from the committees himself instead of forcing his conference members to show their cards through a vote. Hoyer will meet with reporters at 2:00 p.m. ET and the rules committee is having a hearing at 3:00 p.m., so we may learn more on the QAnon congresswoman’s fate in a few hours.
