As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

A manual on mummification has been found included in an ancient Egyptian treatise that is mostly about herbal medicine.
There’s a scandal at Nike. I suspect a fair number of people know about this already.
There is some indication that humans have been in the Americas for something like 30,000 years.
A possible volcanic eruption in Iceland. I wonder if Rei will show up to cover this one like she did the one a few years back.
More Pompeiian frescoes.
Pictures from Mars. I suspect this has been posted elsewhere on Daily Kos, but still,….

I don’t know what’s been getting repaired outside my apartment complex, but the intersection I generally use to get to my driveway was completely blocked on Wednesday, when I desperately needed to get some groceries in. There is a second way onto the block I live on and I did use it — but it is much less obvious and takes me out onto the local highway, which I avoid as assiduously as possible. I think it was probably a good thing my daughter took the bus to work that day.
And it’s Cadbury Creme Egg season. I’ve had my annual one. I only eat the one, since I discovered a fair number of years ago that, while the first is delicious, any after are way too cloyingly sweet for me. It’s been three years since the last time I found the individual ones, so I got the box of four and took the remaining three over for the offspring.
I have some solar powered powerpacks now. The company that sells them has something of a survivalist mentality, so I was very happy to receive both packages at the same time and unsubscribe from their emails. I chose the “I only want to hear from you about products I’ve ordered” option. I am not enthusiastic about getting rashes of emails I haven’t requested. If I’ve ordered something from a company, I want any emails to be about the order not about how terribly unsafe the world is.
All the crocuses behind my apartment have bloomed. There was one yellow one about ten days ago, and now there are several yellow, some white, a couple purple and one panached.
My granddaughter has been doing cross-country it seems. Track and field starts after spring break, which is the final week of this month.
I’ve had no luck when trying for a vaccine appointment, but those of my relatives most urgently in need have all managed it, so I am trying to not whine. I can certainly wait, but one possible location is right down at the bottom of the hill, about five blocks away, so it would be really nice to get an appointment there.
