With reduced barriers surrounding the Capitol grounds, at about 100pm ET, a vehicle attempted to beach the DC Capitol perimeter. Two Capitol Hill police officers were injured. The suspect driver was shot after brandishing a knife at other officers. The suspect subsequently died. One officer remains in the hospital in critical condition. There was a law enforcement briefing at 245pm ET when it was announced that one of the injured officers died. Updates as they occur.

Presser: Capitol Police Chief PIttman reports: incident was at the north side of the perimeter. one of the injured officers has died.
There is video of the incident. The suspect was not previously known to law enforcement. US Capitol Police and Metro DC Police spoke. Presser ends. The investigation is ongoing.
25 year-old Noah Green from Indiana was the deceased driver. The vehicle had Virginia plates.
Deceased Capitol Police officer identified as William “Billy” Evans, an 18 year veteran of the force.
