Major League Baseball stunned many of its supporters, more of its critics, and especially me by DOING THE RIGHT THING. It has pulled its All-Star Game out of Atlanta in protest of this newly-confessed racist state's enactment of laws designed to deny the vote to people of color.
This is not only the right move, but it puts a target on all the other big sports events (and big non-sports events, and all corporations based in Georgia or doing business there). And first up, next Thursday, is the fabled "Masters" Golf Tournament.
It must be boycotted.
It's a fitting subject for such a thing. The term "The Masters" being used in a former slave state is not just a curious coincidence. The golf course on which the overrated event is played didn't even admit its first African-American member until 31 years ago. It reeks of the old South and this new, rancid one.
The people behind it won't move it out of Augusta, Georgia. But the television networks and the sponsors cannot afford this kind of controversy. If enough pressure is applied, the tournament won't be televised, and golf's governing body won't recognize it as a so-called "major" tournament.
There is no doubt now that the economic war has begun. Georgia's fascists must understand it, just as Americans must. The New Confederacy must be smothered now: Georgia is where the Trumpists have begun this war, and there, they must be defeated: Boycott Coke. Boycott Delta. Boycott Home Depot. But first... Boycott The Masters.
