I tried to delete he previous diary as I stupidly published it an hour early but I don’t know how to delete. Oy! njm5000 gave me instructions I’ll most likely use in the future. I’m a bit late and there are actually good comments in the early diary. Sorry!!
Court will resume at 9:15 a.m. CDT, 10:15 a.m. EDT, 8:15 a.m. MDT, and 7:15 a.m. PDT. Several times the judge has started earlier for different matters. Yesterday morning it was to address a Motion to Quash. Sometimes he has on camera discussions about Motions in Limine (one party or the other asking for evidence to be suppessed or included).
For an excellent detailed run down of Tuesday’s trial with videos, please read Laura Floyd’s Expert witness subtly pokes major hole in Chauvin defense: How an alleged fake $20 ends in any force.
For an important take on the trial, I recommend WaPo’s James Hohmann’s Policing is not really on trial in Minnesota: That's Too Bad. While it is impressive and rare that so many of the Minneapolis LEOs, all superiors of Chauvin, have testified against him, Hohmann asserts that we should be wary. Don’t get caught up in a rogue cop scenario. Bad things have happened in Minneapolis due to use of force gone awry. Some things are changing but attitudes remain. Racist attitudes. As witness, Alisha Oyler, 23, said in her testimony as to why she started filming:
“It’s always the police — they’re always messing with people. And it’s wrong, and it’s not right,”
Court was adjourned about 35 minutes early yesterday and it is unclear why. The prosecution requested some time re: some exhibit. Sidebar. Judge adjourns. So there is still some remaining direct questioning followed by cross examination. This morning Sgt. Jody Stiger of the LAPD will retake the stand.
