the DKonversation: Something to talk about
Today’s questions:
- “Democrats need to fight!” What does that mean to you?
- Which Democrats need to fight? What exactly do you want them to do?
People who expected more from Biden’s first four months in office are increasingly frustrated by the stalemate in Congress. Every day, they express their anger and concern in blog posts and newspapers, in beauty parlors and barber shops, on Twitter and on television. Everywhere the topic of politics arises.
Some complain elected officials aren’t doing enough with what the resources they have and insist that Dems should fight!
Others are already taking a despairing or cynical tone, stating bluntly that Dems “never fight” or “won’t fight” or “don’t know how to fight.”
If you could snap your fingers and wake up tomorrow with the Democratic Party fighting in the way that would give you the most encouragement and hope, what exactly would that look like?
Some of the actions people want most may already be in process behind the scenes, just getting started on a local/statewide level, or otherwise outside the notice of national news outlets.
Other strategic steps are hampered by procedural difficulties that are complicated to explain.
But let’s set that aside for now and just brainstorm. Put all the ideas on the table.
Let’s get specific about the kind of fight we would most like to see, and the kind of fight we would most like to join.
Who knows? Someone here may have a strategic idea that catches on and ends up making a difference.
And if you have information about ways Democrats are already fighting, sharing that would definitely give people encouragement.
Here are today’s questions one more time—answer one or both or none as you prefer:
- “Democrats need to fight!” What does that mean to you?
- Which Democrats need to fight? What exactly do you want them to do?
