Remember hydroxychloroquine? It’s the anti-malarial, anti-lupus drug that people started taking last year because a sweaty, out-of-shape ball of malignant insecurities and congealed ghee saw a tweet about it, envisioned a miracle cure that could save his flailing presidency, and decided, oh, what the heck? Let’s get this in as many Americans’ bodies as we can, just in case it actually does something.
Although it was never thoroughly vetted for use against COVID, “someone” managed to convince the FDA to grant an emergency use authorization for the drug (the EUA was later revoked, in part because of “ongoing serious cardiac adverse events and other potential serious side effects”). Meanwhile, people who really needed it (i.e., lupus patients) suddenly faced a shortage.
Yes, there were thousands of reasons to reject Donald Trump’s steaming sasquatch dump of a presidency, but this is at or near the top of the list. Instead of following the science, Trump swung for the fences with a bat made of witch broomsticks and fairy wishes, putting us even further behind the COVID curve.
And now Trump—who’s never admitted a mistake in his life, as far as I can tell—has been publicly rebuked once more, if somewhat indirectly.
Oklahoma News 4:
Attorney General Mike Hunter today announced he has reached an agreement with FFF Enterprises to return the state’s stockpile of hydroxychloroquine for a refund.
FFF Enterprises has agreed to return to the Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) the full purchase price paid for the medication last year.
Well, that’s nice, isn’t it? Though I’m not sure people who foolishly followed Donald Trump’s advice should be bailed out like this. After all, how will these people ever learn if they don’t face consequences for their rank stupidity?
In a statement, Oklahoma Attorney General Mike Hunter said the following:
“I commend the leadership at FFF Enterprises who worked with us to return the state’s supply of hydroxychloroquine while giving the state a refund,” Attorney General Hunter said. “They recognized we were in competition with every other state in the nation to get whatever we could to protect Oklahomans. When it was determined the drug wasn’t effective in combatting the virus, they did the right thing by refunding our money. FFF is the type of company that Oklahoma likes to do business with, and we appreciate their partnership.”
Well, Trump’s HCQ Crusade didn’t really help Oklahomans, but on the other hand, he did likely host a superspreader event in the state!
Someone tell Herman Cain that we finally found a good treatment for COVID. And all it took was a painful president-ectomy.
It made comedian Sarah Silverman say “THIS IS FUCKING BRILLIANT” and prompted author Stephen King to shout “Pulitzer Prize!!!” (on Twitter, that is). What is it?
