In this article Shannon Pettypiece lays out the challenges President Biden faces this summer:
Biden’s ambitious plans can be thwarted by the Senate where Mitch McConnell has vowed to oppose every bill that would benefit Democrats as they position themselves to win a majority of his precious Senate and gain more seats in the House.
The only way I see to help President Biden achieve his goals is for Senators Joe Manchin and Krysten Sinema to support ending the filibuster. Manchin has been unequivocal in opposing this: see “Democrat Joe Manchin opposes eliminating or weakening the Senate filibuster under any circumstance” and “ Sinema doesn’t feel the need to explain herself: How she sees past wins sheds light on her resistance to changing long-standing Senate procedures. But the Arizona Democrat isn’t answering a lot of questions about that — or the curtsy.”
As for Putin, read “Russia tells U.S. to expect ‘uncomfortable’ signals ahead of Putin-Biden summit.”
We expect Putin to do his best to derail Biden at every turn. He’s the enemy of the democracy in the United States that we fight without, the Republicans are the enemy we fight within.
Those of use who believe in democracy in the United States are fighting wars on two major fronts. The battlefronts are figuratively oceans apart. In World War II we had to fight wars on fronts that were literally oceans apart.
The forces of democracy won World War because the United States and her allies were united.
Now we have a Republican Party which has to a large extent united themselves behind a defeated president who not only was compared by serious scholars to Adolph Hitler but is acting like a deposed dictator in exile.
