Statement about a week ago from Texas Governor Greg Abbott — “EVERTHING THAT NEEDED TO BE DONE WAS DONE TO FIX THE POWER GRID.” And the irony of timing is the statement by ERCOT ( I think that stands for Evil Republican Control Of Texas) this same week, advising Texans to turn up the thermostat in your house to help prevent rolling blackouts while the heat goes into the nineties(!). I remember way back (last summer) when summer temps in the 90’s was a cool respite from the summer heat. The worst is yet to come, and Texas will reliably go into the 100’s on a regular basis until October.
I just went through my first-ever rolling blackout, and I must say it was enlightening.
I used to live a sheltered life, inside a house where I got used to being comfortable because of air conditioning and heating. I got used to having electricity available to run them. I used to be able to rely on it being there.
Now I’m getting used to power grid failures in winter and rolling blackouts in the summer. Now I’m getting used to hauling buckets of water to flush my toilet. Now I’m getting used to piling blankets on my bed to sleep warm in winter. Now I’m getting used to resetting the clocks in all my appliances on a daily basis. Now I’m getting used to the idea that I need to consider buying a generator.
One thing I always considered (and acted upon) was voting for elected representatives that would do things to help Me instead of Big Oil and Gas. Not many won. One thing that gives me hope for the future is that Texas will turn blue, and the majority of voters will become fed up with the way Texas is being run and quit putting clowns in office like Abbott, Cruz, Gohmert, Cornyn, Paxton, and all the other brain dead, bought out weasels who run things here.
