Now, I’m not saying this brings us anywhere close to getting Manchin’s support (much less Sinema’s) in getting rid of the fillibuster, or at least making it more onerous. But it does signal that Manchin knows what’s up with Moscow Mitch and that his dreams of bipartisanship are just that, dreams. Let’s see what he does after his compromise — which gives the Republicans what they say they want — is not even allowed to come up for debate.
I have to hope that Manchin is playing the long game and will come on board. That’s what we’re left with right now.
