Rep. Conor Lamb (D. PA-17)
Received this e-mail today from potential U.S. Senate candidate, Rep. Conor Lamb’s (D. PA-17) re-election:
Last week, the filibuster failed the American people yet again.
We deserve to know the truth of the events of January 6th, when a mob of our own citizens attacked the Capitol building. Capitol Police officers and their families deserve to know the truth -- they deserve to know why they were overrun and so badly beaten.
And the only reason we may never have the full answer to what happened on that day? Because the vote to establish a bipartisan investigatory commission didn't pass with a filibuster-proof super-majority of 60 votes.
That's right. Republicans successfully killed the bill with just 35 nay votes to 54 yea votes, in stunning defiance of basic democratic principles. Now it's time to end the filibuster's grip on progress in this country.
We are the only democracy in the world that routinely requires a supermajority vote for basic legislation. And this time, it means we won't get the full picture of what happened on one of the darkest days in our history.
They’ve made us choose between protecting our Capitol and our democracy, or protecting a procedural tool that isn’t even in the Constitution. For me, that’s not a hard choice.
The filibuster has to go. It’s the right thing to do.
So what do you say? Will you join me and sign our petition demanding an end to the filibuster rule in the Senate?
Thanks for adding your voice -- it's never been more important.
