The Lincoln Project had a podcast with Maya May and professor of medicine and pulmonologist, Dr. Jonathan Reiner. Dr. Reiner and Maya May talked about the novel coronavirus and vaccines. He pointed out that when that the reason why so many republicans have refused to get vaccinated is that the former guy minimized it and equated it to the flu. He noted that that the former guy identified the stock market with his re-election probability and based his decision to minimize the pandemic because he thought that this would keep the stock market high and give him a good chance at winning re-election. He pointed out that there would be no reason to get vaccinated for a hoax. What’s worse, he said, is that because of all of these people not getting vaccinated, it is allowing the novel coronavirus to stay active in the public and mutate. Consequently, we are going to continue to see more and more variants beyond the delta variant and the Lambda variant the longer that we have large segments of the population unvaccinated. He stated that 180 million Americans have been vaccinated and that of those who remain unvaccinated, 90 million are under 12 . This leaves us some sixty million adults who are unvaccinated. As long as they remain unvaccinated, we will continue to see the variants appear. He went on to say that 100% of the members of Congress have been vaccinated, but that 100 House Republicans won’t admit it because it is unpopular in their districts.
8 minutes 35 seconds in :
Dr. Reiner: Over 100 members of Congress all of them GOP members who refuse to tell their constituents whether they have been vaccinated (shakes head). They’ve all been vaccinated, every single one of those characters have been vaccinated .
Maya May: right
Dr. Reiner: how cynical; they won’t tell their constituents that they’ve been vaccinated because they know that it’s kind of unpopular in their district . So, they’re willing to let their constituents die, right, rather than lose votes.
My guess is that this is based upon the rule change : members don’t have to wear a mask if they can show that they are fully vaccinated.
The House of Representatives is lifting its mask requirement for those who are fully vaccinated, ending a pandemic-driven rule that had quickly turned into a divisive political issue.
Brian P. Monahan, Congress’s attending physician, outlined the policy change in a memo Friday that applies to members and staff on the House floor and in committee rooms. The change is in response to a high vaccination rate — 85 percent — among those working in the Capitol complex and the decrease in community transmission, according to a senior congressional aide, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to talk frankly about the changes.
“The guideline document reflects that fully vaccinated individuals may discontinue mask wear and 6-foot social distance separations in most situations consistent with the CDC revision regarding fully vaccinated individuals of May 13, 2021,” Monahan wrote.
Mask-wearing and social distance policies remain in place for those who are not fully vaccinated or whose vaccination status is unclear, Monahan said.
If there are no fines and there are no House GOP wearing masks, then all members have been vaccinated and can show evidence of that fact. At 18:14 Dr. Reiner says that he (the former guy) got it (the vaccination) in secret, what kind of insanity is that ?

Dr. Reiner calls Trump’s secrecy about getting vaccinated “world-class nuttiness” and then says imagine if the former president of the United States went around and said , “You have to get vaccinated!” , Maya replies, “We’d be out of this ! We would be out of this !”

Preet Bahara and others have pointed out that Fucker Tarlson is almost certainly vaccinated. He works in a study with other people without a mask. Fox or their parent corp has to be insured and they couldn’t get insurance without fulfilling a requirement that everybody there is vaccinated. He also told others to go to work in person while he worked at home.

33 million Americans have caught the novel coronavirus. The data I found said that 160 million Americans had been fully vaccinated. Some of those who caught it were vaccinated. I don’t know what the cardinality of the intersection of the two sets is (ie Set S is the set of all those Amercans who have been fully vaccinated and Set T is the set of all those Americans who caught the novel coronavirus. I don’t know the cardinality of the intersection of Sets S and T — ie how many people who had caught the novel coronavirus and also were vaccinated). Honestly, I can’t even make an educated guess what that number is. Based upon the numbers that I found (the approximately 160 M vaccinated Americans and the 33 M Americans who had caught the novel coronavirus and there are 90 M Americans under the age of 18) somewhere between 250 M and 283 M Americans have some amount of protection. Without a doubt, everybody 12 years of age or older should get vaccinated unless their doctor says otherwise for a reason that is specific to that patient. Only those vaccinated can be confident that they are protected. As Dr. Reiner pointed out, 100% of those who have died in VA from the pandemic were not vaccinated.
