Many people apparently regard the reports that well over 600,000 Americans have died of covid-19 to be "fake news". News flash: The life expectancy in the U.S. declined by about 1.5 years in 2020. Covid is real! And according to the National Center for Health Statistics, covid accounts for about 75% of the decline in life expectancy. This is a huge decline!
To put this in perspective, in 2018, there was a 0.1 year increase in life expectancy. In 2019, there was another 0.1 year increase in life expectancy. So, a 1.5 year DECREASE in life expectancy is huge. This resulted in the lowest life expectancy since 2003. So, 17 years of improvement in life expectancy were wiped out in one year!
This is not "fake news". This is reality. Unfortunately, some people continue to believe that covid is "fake news" or that it is not a serious illness or that the reported number of deaths from covid is exaggerated for some political reason. But you can't "spin" life expectancy. This is based on careful, objective analysis of that data, analysis carried out by a boring, non-political agency called the National Center for Health Statistics. (I mean no offense to NCHS by calling it “boring”.)
