Trump made a sport of humiliating and denigrating Bush's father, Jeb Bush, for years. The Bush family (and, for that matter, the Cheney family) absolutely hate the Trumps. But what they hate even more is how far Jeb’s son, George P. Bush, groveled in a futile attempt to get Trump’s endorsement for his campaign for Attorney General.
If you recall, Trump liked to remark that Jeb was weak. He called him a “loser,” a “liar,” and told Wolf Blitzer that he had “some of a breakdown”:
”He’s an embarrassment to his family. He has to bring his mother out and walk his mother around at 90 years old. I think it’s a very sad situation that’s taking place. Frankly, he’s a stiff. He’s not a guy who can be president. He doesn’t have what it takes to be president.”
Jeb Bush whined that he was sick and tired of Trump attacking his family. Trump even insulted George P. Bush’s Mexican mother, tweeting:
"@RobHeilbron: @realDonaldTrump #JebBush has to like the Mexican Illegals because of his wife."
George P Bush was totally cool with all of it. He strongly endorsed Trump in 2020, bucking his family. He announced last month that he was running against scandal-plagued Texas AG Ken Paxton, who might end up in prison soon.
George P. begged for Trump’s endorsement, but had to settle for getting a lousy phone call.
Trump continued to insult the Bush family. Even when he praised George P., it was only in the context of not being as bad as his other family members. George was so elated that he literally made one of Trump’s only nice comments to him into a beer koozie for his campaign events:
I guess I can’t blame the kid. After all, this strategy worked for Ted Cruz in Texas. Trump literally called his wife was ugly and said his dad was involved in the assassination plot against JFK. Yet Ted licks his boots all day long and still got elected. I don’t get following Ted Cruz as a political strategy, but I’m not a Republican.
So after debasing himself and letting Trump insult his family, did Bush get his endorsement over the criminal?
HA!
Yup, Donnie was just f-g with him.
Trump actually gave a very strong endorsement to AG Ken Paxton, and had nothing to say about poor Georgie.
The good news for George P. is that even in Republican circles, people are finally getting sick of Trump:
Trump strongly backed Susan Wright, but State Rep. Jake Ellzey will head to Congress. I’d say that’s a good sign for George, but he shouldn’t take it that way. The fact remains that Ellzey never once debased himself and his family.
George P. groveled for nothing, and embarrassed his entire family. But look at the bright side, he has plenty of koozies to keep his beer cold.
