If you watch nothing else, watch this. She can really swing! With Alan Gilbert and the Philharmonic, no less:
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

She’s had quite a career:
McDonald was a three-time Tony Award winner by age 28 for her performances in Carousel, Master Class, and Ragtime, placing her alongside Shirley Booth, Gwen Verdon and Zero Mostel by accomplishing this feat within five years. She was nominated for another Tony Award for her performance in Marie Christine before she won her fourth in 2004 for her role in A Raisin in the Sun, placing her in the company of then four-time winning actress Angela Lansbury. She reprised her Raisin role for a 2008 television adaptation, earning her a second Emmy Award nomination. On June 10, 2012, McDonald scored her fifth Tony Award win for her portrayal of Bess in Broadway's The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess, thus tying Angela Lansbury and Julie Harris.[10] Her 2014 performance as Billie Holiday in Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill earned McDonald her sixth Tony award and made her the first person to win all four acting categories.

I just love this one:
She really feels this one:
These are excerpts from Terrence McNally’s play Master Class with Zoe Caldwell. Audra comes on just after 17:55, but Caldwell is hilarious as the imperious Maria Callas so you will probably enjoy watching all the clips [“You don’t have a look. Get one.”]:
There is always an entrance first, just as there is always an exit later. Art is about those transitions. There is only discipline, technique...and mood.
Zoe Caldwell as Maria Callas in Master Class
The important part:
I’m really sorry I missed Master Class on Broadway, even if opera has that fingernails-on-chalkboard feel to me.
So, although I prefer her in Broadway Musical mode, Audra does have a classically trained voice:
This profile is quite good, and she discusses her Julliard training. But she will go on to win another three Tony Awards after this is aired.
I prefer her voice to that of most actresses playing Bess that I’ve heard:
From Sondheim’s A Little Night Music:
Love it:
This one’s from covid lockdown. Apparently for Sondheim — the song is from his show Company. LOL:
This is a good interview:
And this offers a bit more background information:
This conversation at Lincoln Center is pretty inside-theater. Which fascinates me, but if it doesn’t appeal to you, skip it [but you’ll be missing out]:
