Someone actually thought this would be a good idea. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy wants his supporters to spend money on t-shirts identifying themselves as "morons." In a bid to be clever, he actually provides a definition: "A term coined by Nancy Pelosi referring to freedom-loving Americans who oppose mask mandates."
Which is actually pretty darned accurate, except for the “coined by Nancy Pelosi” part, which suggests that McCarthy and team have no idea what “coined” means. But understanding where words come from is such a socialist, elitist thing.
It took a few weeks, but McCarthy finally figured out this comeback to Pelosi. Last month, the House physician reimposed a mask mandate in the House because House Republicans pose a danger to everyone there—only about half of them will say publicly if they've been vaccinated. "Make no mistake," McCarthy responded. "The threat of bringing masks back is not a decision based on science, but a decision conjured up by liberal government officials who want to continue to live in a perpetual pandemic state." Or, you know, continue to live.
Pelosi's response: "He's such a moron." It's damned hard to argue against that. Even harder now that he's proudly embracing the label and hoping that his followers will follow suit. Because nothing says pride and freedom like walking around in that.
I suppose the good news is that McCarthy chose this instead of a t-shirt showing him hitting her with a gavel, because you know someone on his team thought that would be a really great idea.
The thing is, this shirt probably will sell. Because McCarthy knows his base really well. He's definitely one of his people.
