Whose in charge of your state can make a difference when dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, AT LEAST UP TO A POINT! Kentucky has a Democratic governor (Andy Beshear), but he is governor to a state of people who voted overwhelming for Trump and Republicans. And there are too many Kentuckians (approximately 48% of the population )who defiantly remain UNVACCINATED and are now coming down with the Delta Variant. The lastest news is that several hospitals in the smaller Kentucky cities have already hit capacity, and all the COVID-19 cases are from unvaccinated people.
From the Louisville Courier-Journal:
COVID-19 cases filling Kentucky ICUs; Bowling Green hospital latest to reach capacity
Bowling Green's Med Center Health became the latest Kentucky hospital to report it is being overwhelmed by COVID-19 patients, nearly all unvaccinated, as the delta variant continues its sweep across the state.
"It just continues to escalate," Dr. William Moss, head of emergency medicine for the hospital, said Friday.
The intensive care unit is full, and the emergency room is backed up with patients waiting for a room, he said.
With 47 patients hospitalized for COVID-19 and 11 of them on ventilators, Moss said the hospital hasn't experienced this level of demand since the worst days of the COVID-19 pandemic last winter when vaccines had not become widely available.
In mid-July, Med Center Health had one patient hospitalized with COVID-19.
So in about one month, Bowling Green Med Center Health went from one COVID-19 patient to 47. This despite the push by Governor Andy Beshear for everyone to get vaccinated. And it is the unvaccinated that are filling up the ICU beds.
And it ain’t just the smaller cities where hospitals are running out of beds.
Louisville hospital officials say they still have capacity to accept patients including in intensive care but space is getting tighter as the numbers of COVID-19 patients increase.
Norton had 127 COVID-19 patients hospitalized Friday, 36 in intensive care. At the beginning of August, it had 46 COVID-19 patients.
University of Louisville Health said it has averaged about 80 COVID-19 patients a day in recent days, increasing from 30 on Aug. 2.
COVID-19 hospitalizations continued a steep climb statewide, reaching 1,424 Friday, compared to 244 one month ago.
Louisville is the largest city in the state of Kentucky. Bowling Green is south of Louisville. Another hospital in Ashland, which is right on the border between KY and WV, is filled up with COVID-19 patients.
And as I keep harping, all these people are unvaccinated.
And what about those unvaccinated patients? How do they feel now about COVID-19? Did they think it was a fucking hoax because Trump told them so? Did they believe Senator Rand Paul’s lies about COVID-19?
Moss said he has spoken with some unvaccinated patients admitted with COVID-19 and all express regret. Those patients also are now urging friends and neighbors to get vaccinated against COVID-19, he said.
Everyone I talked to wishes they had got it," he said...
King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland on Thursday had 48 COVID-19 patients, and the ICU was full, Dr. Stacy Caudill said.
The hospital recently opened a fourth COVID-19 unit to handle the increase, she said.
Many COVID-19 patients express remorse about skipping the vaccine, said Dr. Joshua Bryant, also with King's Daughters.
"What we're seeing is a lot of regretful patients and family members," he said. "There's a lot of illness and deaths that are preventable."…
In Bowling Green, many COVID-19 patients say they avoided vaccines based on anecdotal and largely false reports from friends or social media, Moss said.
"The answers are all the same, based on misinformation, every single one," Moss said.
Lies. I bet everyone one of those unvaccinated assholes — and they are assholes — watches Fox or Newsmax. And they share all the lies being spread on social media platforms. Hell, now we have a U.S. Senator telling the rest of the state not to wear masks or get vaccinated!
And like all the other Southern States, kids are ending up in the hospitals and ending up on ventilators.
It was only this week that Governor Beshear recommended that all students wear masks for at least 30 days, and the State Education School Board wants to go longer than that. Republicans have already taken Beshear to court about his “unconstitutional” emergency powers. The legislature is controlled by Republicans who want to overturn any and all orders dealing with COVID-19. The only thing that doesn’t make this Florida is because we have a Democratic governor.
But if 48% of the state flat out refuses to get vaccinated against COVID-19, this is the result. Oh yeah. Some are now seeing the errors of their ways, but is it is enough to turn the tide? I doubt it. Frankly, I think the death rate from COVID-19 would have to be very bad before it possibly sunk into the dimwits skulls in KY that it is an infectious disease that can kill.
But I have my doubts, especially after seeing the famous sick man from LA claim that he would gladly get sick all over again rather than take the vaccine. Or the woman nurse in AR who lost both her parents, but still defends their right not to take the dreaded vaccine. She’s unvaccinated by the way.
It’s all about identity. They are white people who believe in white supremacy. And their champion of white supremacy, Donald Trump, told them this would go away. It was no worse than flu. Too bad he didn’t tell his followers that he got the vaccine!
My point being is even if you have a Democrat as your governor the idiots in the state can create havok during a viral pandemic by refusing to be vaccinated for political reasons. This really is dying to own the libs.
Could be worse. I could have Death Santis as my governor. Shudders.
