I figure you all may have already read about this today, but an angry white man decided to charge at a black MNSBC reporter while he was on the air. This occured in Mississippi today, and the reporter, Shaquille Brewster, was at the beach talking about — drum roll please — Hurricane Ida.
Imagine that. A reporter on the beach during a hurricane. Normally, I think to myself, “Oh that Dude drew the short straw at the TV station.” No way do I want to be on a beach when a hurricane is about to hit. I have this thing about flying debris, falling power lines, and waves of water coming at me.
But the last thing I expect is for a man to stop his truck and run up to a reporter screaming about “accurate reporting.”
Here it is for those who have better things to do:
Now, the focus was on Brewster’s professionalism during this attack. And let’s face it. This was an attack. You can clearly see the guy getting into Brewster’s face. If those other people had not been with Brewster, would fat white guy have hit Brewster?
Yes. This is Mississippi. And it’s the Trump era. White men are especially “free” to whatever the fuck they want. And if you are giving a person of color a hard time, you get brownie points from the white supremacists.
If Brewster had been white, you think this guy would have stopped his truck and run his fat ass off to get on camera? It’s possible. But the combination of BLACK MAN and MEDIA is too much for an white asshole to pass up.
And did you hear what he is screaming? He wants “accurate reporting” of a hurricane. Like the hurrican is a Republican? Or did this mofo think this was a dissertation on global climate change? “Oh I have to stop this linkage between climate change and hurricanes!” this dipstick might have been “thinking.”
Or maybe nimrod in white thought this was another dig at Trump? Anyone remember Sharpiegate? When Trump kept claiming that a hurricane was going to hit Alabama? Perhaps this dumbass got into a time warp and thought it was still 2019?
The good news for dumbass is that 1) it’s Mississippi, 2) Brewster won’t press charges, and 3) the cops won’t give a damn because they have to deal with the after effects of Hurricane Ida.
Anyway, I’m just very, very, very tired of watching white men being criminals, and there are no consequences. And I’m an old white guy. So I cannot even imagine what people of color feel when they see more of this shit.
UPDATE: ARREST WARRANT ISSUED FOR MAN WHO ASSAULTED BREWSTER.
Police have issued an arrest warrant for an Ohio man accused of assaulting a MSNBC reporter who was covering Hurricane Ida in Gulfport, Mississippi, during a citywide curfew...
The Gulfport Police Department issued a statement Wednesday identified the suspect as Benjamin Eugene Dagley of Wooster, Ohio. Arrest warrants were issued charging him with simple assault, disturbance of the peace and violation of an emergency curfew.
Dagley may also have violated his probation by traveling to the area, police said. He’s on probation for a previous charge in Cuyahoga County, Ohio.
Gulfport police believe that Dagley is no longer on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and is traveling in a white 2016 Ford F150 with the Ohio license plate number PJR1745. Police asked anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact their local law enforcement agency.
I believe one of the commenters on this diary was saying that I should not act like Fox Propaganda and throw every little bit of outrage “news” up on Daily Kos. I should have waited for further developments. Well, it didn’t take a genius to see that this man Dagley is an asshole, but as you can see above, he committed another crime in Ohio before this incident.
If anyone knows this asshole, please call the police.
2ND UPDATE: Here is Gadly’s crime in Ohio. He is accused of creating an “environmental disaster.”
Man drilled holes in tanks of cyanide, acid at Cleveland company he once owned, police said
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- A Wooster man faces criminal charges after he broke into an electroplating company he once owned and drilled holes in tanks of dangerous chemicals, Cleveland police investigators said.
The incident sent one employee to the hospital for exposure to toxic chemicals, and risked a potential environmental disaster, according to a Cleveland police report.
Benjamin Dagley, 50, is charged with breaking and entering in the Aug. 22 incident at Cleveland Plating on East 134th Street in the South Collinwood neighborhood.
Dagley was identified in police reports as a former co-owner of the business, but court records indicate he owned a similar electroplating company at the same location before Cleveland Plating took over, and he still owns the property itself.
Employees called police around 8 p.m. Aug. 22 after a security guard discovered gas escaping in one of the facility's chemical rooms.
Surveillance footage later revealed Dagley drilled into tanks of sodium cyanide, hydrochloric acid, yellow chromate, ferrous chloride, and sulfuric acid, according to a current owner, Ed Cochran.
"If you mix the (cyanide and hydrochloric acid), you basically have the cyanide gas of World War I," Cochran said. "It certainly would produce a toxic vapor that could kill."
Employees told police that the released chemicals "are severe enough to cause a large scale catastrophe, and Dagley knew what he was doing," the report says.
Potential cyanide poisoning is the reason why the 27-year-old security guard who found the leaks was taken to University Hospitals, according to Cochran and the report.
Court records there and in Cuyahoga County indicate that Dagley and his companies are locked in a financial dispute over the property, its mortgage, and Cleveland Plating's lease, among other things.
"He wants us to settle and we won't pay, that's why I think he's done all this," Cochran said.
Cleveland Plating's current owners asked a judge for a temporary restraining order against Dagley earlier this year, saying that he entered the building April 8 and put locks on almost all the doors, court records show. The judge denied that request.
Emphasis is mine.
Oh yeah. A lovely man. He has tried to murder people with toxic chemicals.
