In the dead of night last night, the Supreme Court did something monumental: nothing. As the draconian Texas abortion ban on abortions past 6 weeks was scheduled to go info effect at midnight CST, activists were awaiting the Supreme Court to act on a stay of the bill. But. Crickets. Cowardly crickets. Maybe they were having BEER BEER BEER with Kavanaugh.
The inaction of the Supreme Court allowed the bill to take effect. Last night abortion clinics in Texas were performing abortions on patients up until the midnight deadline. And the clinics were packed. Today, the clinics and abortion rights activists are scrambling to figure out what next.
The law now bans abortions in Texas past 5 weeks 6 days, before most women even know they are pregnant. It also has a creepy side hustle. Citizens can report people who allegedly break the law and possibly get legal fees and $10,000 in busybody grifting fees.
