I live in rural America. Specifically, rural Virginia.
Herb Jones grew up in rural America. Specifically, rural Virginia.
Some people are leaders in High School.
Herb Jones is one such person. In High School he was the president of the Student Government Association. He then went on to college and from there into the Army in 1982. He served at home in the US and abroad for 30 years. He was awarded the Bronze Star, and retired in 2012 at the rank of colonel. In his civilian life, Herb Jones founded a small business with his brother, and was also elected as treasurer of New Kent County. He and his family live in New Kent County, Virginia.
He stands for honor and service. His opponent Rob Wittman stands for Trumpism and election denial.
Herb Jones is running to represent Virginia’s 1st Congressional District. Where is that, you wonder?
You could say that Herb Jones’s raison d'etre for running at this point in time is the coup d'état his opponent supported, and still does. You know, the one the US Congress is still investigating and the same one many Republicans are trying to normalize — like Herb Jones’s opponent Rob Wittman.
Just to give you an idea — Wittman used to be viewed by the WaPo as “moderate” until he shocked even them, and joined the Tea Party’s Freedom Caucus freaks from Virginia (the infamous Dave Bratt and Thomas Garrett) to repeal the ACA.
I’m telling you, Republicans always show us who they are. Most people do, for that matter. And Herb Jones is also showing us who he is and what drives him — honor and integrity, that’s what.
Even the pooties know this!
Herb Jones and policy positions:
The PACT Act is a new law that expands VA health care and benefits for Veterans exposed to burn pits and other toxic substances.
Wittman does not support this law. Wittman voted against the PACT Act, which possibly affects 3.5 million veterans.
And then tried to take credit for it:
Herb Jones supports the PACT Act, and caring for veterans who have fought and were wounded in service. Herb Jones cares about the VA, the veterans, and giving them the medical care to improve their lives. He was a wounded veteran himself. He gets it!
Herb Jones supports the ACA.
Herb feels that all people have the right to accessible, affordable healthcare delivered with respect and appreciation for their cultural needs, values, and beliefs.
Wittman, on the other hand, in keeping with his Freedom Caucus buddies, voted against the ACA. And then wrote a bumbling letter droning on about ‘allowing people to choose for themselves what suited their families’ and other rot. What? Bankruptcies or death? Great choices, dude.
I still remember Trump promising us his healthcare plan that would be so spectacular and would give us all lovely choices. Apparently, Wittman is waiting for that too.
Climate change is not just about economy. It’s about life itself.
Herb Jones, in the US Congress House of Rep will help Virginians with supporting policies that help us.
Do you have broadband?
Do you support it?
Do you support unions?
Herb Jones supports broadband for Virginia schools, business and homes. Additionally, Herb Jones supports labor unions.
Whereas, his opponent Rob Wittman "proudly" voted against Biden's American Rescue Plan. Just as he voted against Consumer Fuel Price Gouging Prevention Act; however, probably took credit for it, like Republicans did everywhere.
Wittman also voted against Build Back Better Act, and the Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Act. He thinks those are all tax and spend options he rejects. Because why should anyone, with even the teensiest brains, be against deficit reduction, improving economic outlook, improving public housing.
Why would anyone object to improving the environment, and setting America on a stronger path, as the years roll by? Because Republicans have a limited vision of the world. Republican chant about “tax and spend” means they want to save their dark money masters and themselves at the trough.
Herb Jones believes climate change is happening and on going in Virginia, particularly with flooding in Norfolk, Hampton and the middle peninsula.
Here’s AFL-CIO on Wittman’s ersatz voting record. Clearly, Rob Wittman is not for Virginia’s working families. I know Herb Jones is. That’s why he’s running. To provide quality representation to the voters of Virginia’s 1st Congressional.
Just think, with your help, Virginia could have Herb Jones, instead!
Reproductive Freedom:
He gets it!
Herb Jones trusts women to best manage our healthcare and reproductive decisions.
Herb Jones is not against contraception.
Herb Jones is for marriage equality.
What about that Wittman fella, you’re probably wondering? Yeah:
WaPo:
For the Healthcare Protection Act, which passed the full House 219-to-210, all four Virginia GOP House members — Ben Cline, Bob Good, H. Morgan Griffith and Wittman — voted “no.” That comes as no surprise because Republican orthodoxy will not allow any deviation on abortion. And, lest we forget, among the leading antiabortion maximalists in the House and in Virginia is the 5th District’s Good.
What about the abortion access bill? That seems a little more nuanced. It guarantees women the right to travel across state lines to get safe, lawful abortions. It passed the full House 223-to-205. Cline, Good, Griffith and Wittman all voted against it.
Moving on to the Right to Contraception Act. The full House approved it 228-to-195. Again, Cline, Good, Griffith and Wittman voted against it.
And on the Respect for Marriage Act, which the full House approved 267-to-157, Virginia’s four Republican House members voted “no.”
*Bolding mine. Some links in quote added by me.
Rob Wittman voted against reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act.
To coup d'état, or not —
Last, but not least — Rob Wittman opposed the certification of Pennsylvania’s electoral votes. Yes, he’s a Trumper pro-coup “Big Lie” kinda guy:
In addition, Congressman Wittman voted to oppose certification of the Pennsylvania electoral votes on January 6, 2021, feeding the frenzy about a “stolen election” that has challenged the American political system since that date. He has voted against every piece of legislation that would protect or expand voting rights. He voted against the Respect for Marriage Act, which would have codified the legality of same-sex marriage. He also voted twice against impeaching the former President.
During the four years of former President Trump’s administration, Congressman Wittman voted in line with Trump’s position 90.9% of the time, according to the FiveThirtyEight project.
The Flat Hat News.
In keeping with Wittman’s role as a denialist, he voted against the Electoral Count Act:
The bill’s broad purpose was to prevent a repeat of the insurrectionist assault on the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. Bill co-sponsor Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) framed the vote on the bill this way, as reported by the New York Times:
“If your aim is to prevent future efforts to steal elections, I would respectfully request that conservatives should support this bill,” she said on the House floor. “If instead your aim is to leave open the door for elections to be stolen in the future, you might decide not to support this or any other bill to address the Electoral Count Act."
Wittman, like the other three GOP members of Virginia’s House delegation and most of the Republican caucus, voted against it.
That’s in keeping with Wittman’s other instances of election denialism. The Republican Accountability Project gave Wittman an “F” when it comes to democracy, noting his support for the cockamamie Texas amicus brief challenging the legitimacy of presidential electors in four states, objecting to Pennsylvania’s slate of electors and so on.
SNIP
This, then, is the quality of representation hundreds of thousands of voters in the Richmond suburbs are almost certain to get after Election Day: a MAGA-curious trimmer who has no qualms about degrading democracy if it means he can avoid a primary challenge from the populist right.
WaPo.
Seriously — is Rob Wittman for, or against, the US Constitution?
Evidently, he’s against it!
After voting against the Electoral Count Act, Wittman turned around and on his website he groaned and droned on about how it would prevent people from “expressing concerns” and how people’s frustration needs to be seen etc,. It really was a sop to the Trumpy base in the 1st District.
Whereas, for Herb Jones, the central raison d'etre for his run is the coup:
Three years ago, Herb Jones vowed to never run for Congress, but that was before supporters of then-President Donald Trump stormed the U.S. Capitol in a vain attempt to block certification of the election of Democrat Joe Biden as president of the United States.
That was too much for Jones, a retired U.S. Army officer who had served two tours in the Iraq War and whose maternal grandfather had been lynched in South Carolina.
“I watched these traitors and thugs try to overturn the election,” he said indignantly.
What is it that Rachel Maddow said recently about Republican election deniers and their hard driven penchant to claim power and to stay in office? Huis election denialism has a philosophy behind it.
And that’s not all, with regard to Wittman!
Rob Wittman is corrupt as well. Some drainer of the proverbial swamp, eh?
Like Loeffler, Wittman too, bought pharma stocks as COVID blew up the country:
Other members stand to make money off companies working to combat the disease. Rep. Rob Wittman (R-Va.) purchased between $1,001 and $15,000 of stock in the pharmaceutical company AbbVie Inc., on Feb. 27, the day the company released a statement saying it had donated one of its antiviral drugs to China as an experimental option for treating the coronavirus and that it was exploring a research collaboration on potential treatment options.
Wittman’s office said he “does not have any involvement in investment decisions for his financial portfolio” and noted that AbbVie shares have since lost value. The office later added that Wittman’s initial AbbVie purchase was for $1,218.
Virginia’s 1st District needs a sane and capable representative in the US Congress. Representation matters. Furthermore, the quality of that representation is emphatically of great importance.
Wittman has failed many Virginians in his district.
Herb Jones will not fail the 1st district.
Vote Blue to Save America.
Please, moneybomb Herb Jones!
