Republican Florida man Gov. Ron DeSantis has taken on as many of Donald Trump’s mannerisms as he possibly can. He has spent the last few years proving to Americans that in his search to become the next presidential nominee for the MAGA-GOP, he is willing to put thousands, if not millions, of Floridians’ lives at stake with bad public health policy. DeSantis has shown he knows no bottom when it comes to persecuting children and marginalized groups in pursuit of power. He has proven he is willing to lie and to lie and to lie again if he believes it will get him closer to national power. He is willing to take away half of the country’s reproductive rights. He is willing to take away people’s civil rights and liberties in order to score political points. He has shown he is willing to do all of this while wasting millions of dollars in taxpayer money.
On Monday, Democratic gubernatorial nominee Charlie Crist and DeSantis met for a debate ahead of the Nov. 8 elections. In one very simple but powerful moment in the debate, Crist mentioned that DeSantis was spending an inordinate amount of time talking about President Joe Biden during a debate where Crist is the candidate opposing him and Florida is the place they are both supposed to be serving. Crist followed that up by asking him a very simple question that turned the normally easy liar into an awkwardly taciturn blank slate.
It was like a sunrise. Beautiful.

Crist asked DeSantis, “You talk about Joe Biden a lot. I understand you think you're going to be running against him. I can see how you might get confused.” Teehee. “But you're running for governor. You're running for governor. And I have a question for you. You're running for governor. Why don't you look in the eyes of the people of the state of Florida and say to them, if you're reelected, you will serve a full four-year term as governor?” At this point, DeSantis went from looking like a ghoul ready to speak to a ghoul who wanted to go back under the bridge he terrorizes people from.
But Crist wasn’t done, and while DeSantis waited for the clock to run out, Crist continued, “Yes or no? Yes or no, Ron? Will you serve a full four year term if you're reelected governor of Florida? It's not a tough question. It's a fair question. He won't tell you.”
Enjoy.

On Daily Kos’ The Brief, we speak with polling giant Drew Linzer, who runs polling firm CIVIQs and comes in to talk about a new poll his team conducted for Daily Kos. He is also here to explain, as a professional, how to not stress out every time you see a poll going your way or the other way. One thing is for sure, though: We are living in historic times, and what that means for these midterms cannot be easily predicted—so get out the vote!
