The ever and always attention seeking Arizona senator has assumed the position yet again
Sinema announcement
The above news clip from politico quotes her as saying blah blah blah while pivoting intermittently to 'I don't know’ in an announcement that likely doesn't surprise many of us.
The successful campaign of Warnock to secure his senate seat in a six year term had rendered Sinema's flaky fake Democratic label largely insignificant. Just in time she's managed yet again to obtain the limelight, in flux and flow hallmarked appositive to the formulaic Christmas channel offerings of the season.
In line with dKos publishing standards I offer the following first three paragraphs of the linked article
BREAKING — Burgess Everett with a mega-scoop this morning: “Arizona Sen. KYRSTEN SINEMA is changing her party affiliation to independent, delivering a jolt to Democrats’ narrow majority and Washington along with it.
“In a 45-minute interview, the first-term senator told POLITICO that she will not caucus with Republicans and suggested that she intends to vote the same way she has for four years in the Senate. ‘Nothing will change about my values or my behavior,’ she said.
“Provided that Sinema sticks to that vow,Democrats will still have a workable Senate majority in the next Congress, though it will not exactly be the neat and tidy 51 seats they assumed. They’re expected to also have the votes to control Senate committees. And Sinema’s move means Sen. JOE MANCHIN (D-W.Va.) — a pivotal swing vote in the 50-50 chamber the past two years — will hold onto some but not all of his outsized influence in the Democratic caucus.”
Here’s another link, this one to a CNN story that was published while I was composing myself and this blog— sigh* I’m guessing, maybe even (finally learning) part of adulting is coming to terms with the fact that the roller coaster never ends. It seems this has special appeal to Sinema, as she quips from the linked article
“I’ve never fit neatly into any party box. I’ve never really tried. I don’t want to,” she added. “Removing myself from the partisan structure – not only is it true to who I am and how I operate, I also think it’ll provide a place of belonging for many folks across the state and the country, who also are tired of the partisanship.”
Later she boasts
“When I come to work each day, it’ll be the same,” Sinema said. “I’m going to still come to work and hopefully serve on the same committees I’ve been serving on and continue to work well with my colleagues at both political parties.”
But the commentary of the CNN article’s author suggests some of us at least are mildly mired in the miasma of reality, stating
Sinema’s decision to become a political independent makes official what’s long been an independent streak for the Arizona senator, who began her political career as a member of the Green Party before being elected as a Democrat to the US House in 2012 and US Senate in 2018. Sinema has prided herself on being a thorn in the side of Democratic leaders, and her new nonpartisan affiliation will further free her to embrace an against-the-grain status in the Senate, though it raises new questions about how she – and Senate Democrats – will approach her reelection in 2024 with liberals already mulling a challenge.
I'm not really surprised but I am rather disgusted, which is probably the kindest thing I can say of this public servant. I'm not sure how I feel, really, the news is too new for me to have processed.
I wanted to bring it here largely because I feel confident through the comments y'all will help me figure that out.
Regardless, I'm sure she's once again so very proud.
