Somehow, and only in a now post-Trump world, does a city police department mistakenly print flyers to go along with traffic violations that mysteriously lead people to a website selling merch for a twice-impeached U.S. president.
According to the Miami Herald, people getting pulled over in Miami Beach were handed brochures along with their tickets that were supposed to explain how to take care of their minor infractions online. However, someone printed the wrong URL, leaving out a hyphen (Miami-DadeClerk.com), and leading people away from the city’s portal to this site (Findsale.com, the mistaken and now-nonexistent site, MiamiDadeClerk.com)—a website affiliated with Amazon that sells videos, flags, and caps for Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign.
“We’re aware of this typographical error now,” Miami Beach Police spokesperson Ernesto Rodriguez said of the flyers on Monday. “We put out a notice to officers to discontinue using them.”
The flyers have been circulating countywide since May 2020 to help courts deal with the restrictions around COVID-19 and to assist drivers in uploading documents online and avoiding as much in-person contact as possible. The typo was only found on those flyers handed out in Miami Beach.
The flyers were provided by a court spokesperson and sent to Miami-Dade Police, which then produced its own version and the alleged mistake was made in the printing process.
Judge Steve Leifman called the whole scenario “disgusting.” And since the discovery of the flyers, officers in Miami Beach are forced to give drivers outdated brochures just to be sure they aren’t getting the URL that leads them to the Trump store.
President Joe Biden won Miami Beach by a whopping 60% in 2020. But not everyone in Miami was a fan of the senator from Delaware.
In October, a City of Miami police officer was captured at a polling place wearing a face mask supporting Trump. The mask read: “Trump 2020: NO more bull***.” He was immediately called out for voter intimidation.
Miami Mayor Francis Suarez told the Miami NBC station at the time that the officer was wearing the mask while voting. Police are not allowed to wear anything with a party affiliation while in uniform; this was not addressed.
“It obviously creates a situation… for us, officers have a responsibility… to protect our residents and they have to do that in an impartial manner,” Suarez said.
None of this is particularly shocking, given who the state’s governor is. Since taking office, Gov. Ron DeSantis has been winning in his apparent personal quest to out-Trump Trump and further his agenda of total fascism—from his support for the “Don’t Say Gay” bill to his newest piece of legislation, the “Stop Wrongs Against Our Kids and Employees Act” (“Stop W.O.K.E. Act),” to his all-out slaughter of COVID-19 mitigations such as masks and vaccines.
