I worry about a lot of things. I worry about the Russian invasion. I can’t do much about that. I worry about our ability to defend our Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. About the latter, we know who they are: Trump, FOX and the other Weirdos.
Sometimes I feel I can’t do anything about that either. While we know the Republican Party has been taken over by Trump, FOX and the Weirdos, many Americans who pull that R lever, come election time, either don’t know enough or don’t care enough to meditate on what that party has become.
That’s the bad news. And it’s been the bad news for quite some time. ‘Cause many Americans continue to vote Republican. And I don’t know what to do, what to say, to make them see what you and I see.
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine sucks. It sucks for the people of Ukraine, too many of whom will die innocent or go down fighting. (For the dead and maimed and those who love them, it doesn’t suck so much as suck shit and then some). It sucks for the people of Europe — mostly Poland (shout out) — who to date have absorbed a reported 400k people from Ukraine fleeing the war. It sucks for the Russian conscripts, many of whom don’t want to be there. It sucks for the Russian people who don’t support Putin but still can’t withdraw money from their ATMs and buy food because the economic sanctions against Russia. It sucks for all of us who fear this mess could broaden and even go nuclear if the asshats have their way and actually enforce a no fly zone over Ukraine with NATO (Read: US and France and the UK) planes.
War sucks. This war sucks. I wish along with all of you it wasn’t happening. And it is.
And, as it goes in life, there is a silver lining. And that is, as the headline of this diary states:
Americans - and Republicans specifically - Turn Against Pro-Putin Trump, FOX, and the Other Weirdos
Here’s the evidence.
Here’s the money quote:
Americans say 86 – 6 percent that Russia is not justified in making the claim that Ukraine should be reclaimed by Russia and no longer be a sovereign territory.
“By a large majority, Vladimir Putin is deeply disliked, his justification for attacking Ukraine is rejected and nearly half of Americans consider him mentally unstable,”
[There’s a lot in the poll, and I urge you to read it. If I got the money quote wrong, let me know in the comments.]
Kinda different than what Trump and Tucker and all the other Weirdos are pushing.
In short: we’ve got our wedge issue. To split the Republican party and grind them to dust. Win in November. And defend our Constitution against its DOMESTIC enemies.

More evidence: Yahoo/YouGov poll on the Ukraine invasion has 74% of Americans viewing Putin as wrong.
From the fellows over at electoral-vote.com,
It is not often these days that three-quarters of Americans agree on any political question, which means that if Joe Biden impresses with his leadership here, he could earn some serious brownie points.
*** *** ***
….but he [Biden] better figure out a plan… if he wants to lay claim to the aforementioned brownie points.
That’s where the wedge comes in. From now till November, we really gotta pound that wedge.
