Connect! Unite! Act! is a weekly series that seeks to create face-to-face networks in each congressional district. Groups meet regularly to socialize, get out the vote, support candidates, and engage in other local political actions that help our progressive movement grow and exert influence on the powers that be. Visit us every week to see how you can get involved!
Over the past few weeks I’ve taken time to look back at the 20 years of Daily Kos, and especially some of the stories that really stuck with me after all of this time. Some were heartbreaking stories, like SquireforYou’s wrenching discussion of his wife and what it was like in the Charlottesville emergency room for a nurse after the white nationalist march in 2017, or David Nir’s emotional memory of his wife Mary, who passed away. This week, I’m trying to look back at some of the stories I found really touching and that kept motivating me to read and see what would be next here at Daily Kos.
There are diaries that boiled my blood: Meteor Blades discussing a funeral being stopped 15 minutes after it began as the minister refused to continue after discovering the person to be buried was a lesbian. One of Meteor Blades’ rants from 2016 about the need to defeat Trump makes me wish to goodness that there was any way to influence just a few more people and take back the devastating four years of Donald J. Trump that left our nation harmed in a way that will take a generation to recover from—and that’s assuming we hold the Senate and we could get the Supreme Court back to normalcy.
Some diaries pointed out things during that campaign that should have raised warning signs, but they simply were ignored.
If you haven’t seen TrueBlueMajority’s post about the upcoming Koscars, now is the time.
