IANAL. I am not even a writer. This is my first blog post. Although, I did get spurred to comment when Manchin and Sinema nixed voting rights. It was also then, in my heart of hearts, I knew this day would come.
The old fights are not finished, although many of us believed they were. The Confederacy is still alive and well. My great aunt would say at Thanksgiving, back in the 90's, that Republicans think decades from now, in order to take us back. Part of me is glad she did not see this day. Because she was right.
We either unite, and evolve into a Star Trek future, or break apart and let chaos reign a la MadMax.
This time however, segments of the population that were blasé about things, non-committal and dismissive of the fight at hand...well, they're in the game now too!
In my own social life I have known several white women, who were, semi interested in voting rights when the topic came up, but the chatter seemed to move into an otherism of whose problem it really is.
Not now. If enough of them stand with the coalition the Dems built this November, we can rectify this Roe verdict. But the corporate confederacy aligned with white supremacy is a nemesis for our country that we will once again have to mobilize in record numbers to overcome.
I'm mad. That my right to vote wasn't enough to spur the level of care needed. No problem though. We are all in it now. Together. All of our rights in a basket. Being plucked out in front of us by this Supreme Court.
Knowing someone's struggle is different than understanding. I hope we understand, and build the bridges with those we know and those we don't that get us to that Star Trek future. Because, it's 2022.
And it's about time.
