Elie Mystal made a good point last fall (www.thenation.com/...) as to how the Biden administration could impose a work-around to the draconian Texas vigilante anti-abortion law. You know, the one where your neighbor can sue you for $10,000 if she or he suspects you had an abortion. Mr. Mystal proposed that abortion providers be “federalized” and provide abortion services on military bases. Well, it is now roughly 6-8 months later; the Biden administration did not do this and Roe v. Wade will be history come the end of June. Women in roughly 24-26 states will become second class citizens where even being raped by a father, brother, or uncle will require the possible resultant pregnancy to be carried to term for the “domestic supply of infants”. Well, I have a work around that I would like to propose. Google tells me that 25 states have Indian reservations. Most with more than one reservation. As autonomous nations, reservations could establish women’s health clinics providing amongst other things, wellness exams, cancer screenings, abortions, Plan-B, and mifepristone and misoprostol (abortion pills). Yes, women may still need to travel a great distance to receive an abortion. There may no longer be an abortion clinic in Mississippi, but there is an Indian reservation. Arkansas does not have any Indian reservations, but Louisiana has three. Nebraska has six, Colorado has two, Utah has seven, etc. Nations can ignore the 24-48 hour waiting period, watching a video of so-called fetal heartbeats, invasive wand ultra-sounds, Trap laws, etc. I also need to start seeing Democratic lawmakers and Democratic candidates become much more forceful in their discussions about abortion rights!! The word “abortion” may not be found in the Constitution, but neither is “corporations are people, my friend” or “money is speech”. Oh, I almost forgot the most important thing coming our way; an election in 2022. All members of the House of Representatives, 1/3 of United States senators, many governors, and state house officials will determine if me move forward as a nation or revert to the 1600’s. VOTE!!
