Witnesss testified Monday that they knew the Trump campaign would take advantage of the so-called “Red Mirage,” on Election night 2020.
In a portion of deposition played Monday from former attorney general Bill Barr, Barr said “out of the box, Trump claimed there was fraud and this happened before there was any potential evidence.”
Democratic votes started to rush in quickly as Election night wore on and that was because of the huge influx of mail-in ballots, a feature many Americans relied on as the pandemic had continued to rage.
Bill Stepien also testified Monday that he and House Leader Kevin McCarthy were both invited to a meeting where they made the case for why mail-in voting wasn’t a bad thing for Trump and not suggestive of fraud.
But Trump could not be convinced.
“But the president’s mind was made up and you understand how many times you go to the well on a particular topic,” Stepien told the committee’s counsel in a clip of his previously recorded testimony.
McCarthy, Stepien says, agreed with him.
