Bravo Boston
As my wife and I briefly traveled through Massachusetts on our way to our month-long vacation in Maine, we noticed that many homes displayed Black Lives Matter signs and LGBTQ pride flags. During our jaunt in Maine, we saw very few BLM signs but loads of rainbow flags furled in the harbor business districts. In any case, it was heartening to be in such liberal states that foster minority causes as does Hawaii, our now permanent residence.
Now back in Massachusetts at the end of our trip, we are spending a few days in Boston.Yesterday, when we walked to iconic Copley Square, we were delighted to see five unapologetically vibrant pride flags at the front of the Boston Library with an American flag in the center. But the most astounding array of LGBTQ insignia was at the entire front expanse of the ultra-progressive,multicultural Old South Church: Fifteen rainbow flag sentinels for equality were draped around the massive church portico. Today, I saw a billboard noting that Boston Pride Week had just begun. Furl baby, furl.
Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas in the midst of the Court’s overturning of Roe vs Wade suggested that the Justices review its rulings on contraception and same-sex marriage How appalling! With the Court’s right-wing ideologues in charge, more forays against the sanctity of privacy may well be coming. I’m sure that Massachusetts, especially Boston, will fiercely fight to abort such tyrannical schemes.
