News Roundup: Proud Boys indicted for seditious conspiracy; Jan. 6 committee prepares for hearings

Jan 6. was part of a 'seditious conspiracy' to thwart the results of a U.S. presidential election, and part of a larger 'coordinated, multi-step' plan by Republicans to seize power regardless of the election results.

Five top members of the far-right group Proud Boys have now been indicted for seditious conspiracy as a result of their actions in the Jan. 6, 2021 insurrection; the charges indicate that prosecutors believe they can prove that at least some members of the violent crowd planned their actions as means of overthrowing the United States government.

This week will also see the first public hearings of the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 violence, and committee members are prefacing the hearings with new statements indicating the insurrection was part of a "coordinated, multi-step effort" to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election. News of a coordinated attempt to topple our nation’s democracy will not, however, be broadcast by Fox “News.”
