Good golly Miss Molly, this is some heavy news.
There is reporting by the Washington Post that the documents contain some information that is so sensitive, they can’t even be listed on the property receipt.
Some of the presidential records recovered from former president Donald Trump’s residence at Mar-a-Lago are so sensitive they may not be able to be described in forthcoming inventory reports in an unclassified way, two people familiar with the matter said Friday.
The revelation comes as Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney (D-N.Y.) sent the National Archives and Records Administration a request for further information on 15 boxes of records recovered from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort last month. The Archives set Friday as its deadline for an inventory of the contents.
The Archives has publicly confirmed earlier reporting by The Washington Post that classified materials were found within the boxes and that torn-up records had been transferred to the Archives but not reconstructed by the Trump White House.
There are all kinds of rumors swirling, which I won’t get into, because I don’t want to even present the possibility of discrediting the investigation, but the request for Mar-A-Lago surveillance tapes is an interesting component of this process.
We have to consider the political and legal reality here. If AG Garland did all this on witness testimony, then there is a good chance that would be in the Affidavit stating probable cause. This is why the new line coming from the right wing is so concerning. On cue, here is Lindsay Graham to complain.
No we do not need to see anything investigators are not comfortable disclosing. We don’t conduct criminal investigations through TMZ in ths country, and one of the major deteriorations in public discourse has centered around the lack of respect for due process.
On the other hand, this is a curious response from Graham, since it would seem that seeing the affidavit could only make the situation worse for Trump, because then we would have an even better idea as to why he is being investigated for violating the Espionage Act. So this business of continuing to question the case’s legitimacy is going to wear thin on the patience of all involved.
I believe our patience will be rewarded soon. Just stay calm, and keep the popcorn at the ready.
Update: It appears Breitbart had the warrant given to them by Trump, then leaked the agents names, perhaps jeopardizing theirs and their families’ safety, just sickening.
I will update this as events unfold, and have a great weekend!
