The Aviation Trail Parachute Museum is a part of the Aviation Heritage National Historical Park in Dayton, Ohio.
The use of parachutes began before powered flight: in China and in France people used parachutes to jump from hot air balloons. According to the Museum:
“One of the first well-known parachute jumpers was Georgia “Tiny” Broadwick who began jumping from balloons in 1907 at the age of fifteen. Less than five feet tall, Broadwick was called “The Doll Girl.” In 1912 Broadwick became the first woman to parachute from an airplane. She made more than one thousand exhibition jumps in her career.”
