Trump can’t help himself. There’s no sense bothering to write yet another diary about his malignant narcissism and about him being like the scorpion stinging the frog because it is in his nature. Been there, done that. The way he referred to Mitch McConnell and his wife, Elaine Chao, in his latest Truth Social message has prompted coverage in the national media. This isn’t a surprise. It’s a version of “if it bleeds it leads” only with Trump is “if he screams it leads.”
Trump is flailing about desperately trying to get attention. He must seethe when he sees how much media coverage Ron DeSantis is getting with his showmanship. Joy Reid expressed outrage about this (see MSNBC’S JOY REID CALLS RON DESANTIS’ USE OF BLACK CHILDREN TO HOLD ANTI-CRT SIGNS ‘EXTRA SICK’). I saw this on another show and was also outraged at how he used black kids when he signed his anti-CRT bill. Trump would be resentful of his savvy marketing. Being attacked by Joy Reid would make him happy.
Here’s a photo from this article showing his signing his anti-WOKE bill:
This guy is the ultimate example of a politician who has mastered the art of using children to send his message. The art of baby kissing was not only never mastered by Trump, but his attempts were mocked and ridiculed. Remember this:
Of course a politician wouldn’t have to be a model of mental health to write something expressing their opinion of Mitch McConnell without juvenile name calling and attacking his wife by calling her crazy. You just have to be a decent human being. Throwing in the reference to McConnell’s wife, Elaine Chao, and her involvement in making money from investments in China (see article) is just an example of his throwing in everything he could think of in the moment including the kitchen sink.
Here’s the message without the insults:
The version of the message above wouldn’t have made the news the way the one he posted did. For example the HUFFPOST article was titled “Trump Rips 'Broken Down Hack' Mitch McConnell For Not Backing His Candidates” which emphasizes “broken down hack.”
Rupert Murdoch’s NY Post also used this in their title: Trump calls McConnell a ‘broken down hack’ after he doubted GOP chances in 2022.”
The title “Trump accuses ‘crazy’ former Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao of trying to ‘get rich on China’” in The Hill — makes me wonder if The Hill would have even covered this if Trump hadn’t called Elaine Chao “crazy?”
Here are a few more titles without the links:
I think the national media should ignore Trump’s “Truth Social” messages unless they are truly newsworthy. I think that when they write stories around a post of his basically because he engages in using juvenile insults they are buying into his manipulation and reinforcing his worst impulses.
Trump has been compared to a toddler prone to having tantrums. Much has been written about how to best handle such a toddler in the midst of a tantrum. For example from The Mayo Clinic recommends using timeouts. I think that the media should give Trump a timeout whenever he has a nasty tantrum.
In all modesty, if they write anything when he puts something online like this recent message they should be writing articles like this diary. An example of better title would be “Trump once again demonstrates his malignant narcissism in attack on McConnell and his wife” or for clickbait “Trump’s post proves he’s a paradigm of pathology.”
