Retrograde chess problems aren’t your usual chess problems. They are assumed to arise from a real game (played legally but with dubious strategy), and the solver has to prove certain facts about what happened during the game. Once this is done, this gives you some information that leads to a solution to the puzzle.
I created this puzzle (which is why it’s really not that complicated). In it, it is White’s turn to move, and mate in one.
To find the solution, you need to answer another question first: In which direction are the White pieces moving?

Things went smoother this time, probably because it was a lot easier than the previous one. Dancing Frog was the first one to give the winning move, but without an explanation why it was legal. marsanges gave a correct explanation.
