Republican response to Biden's speech clarifies it: Yes, they are all MAGA fascists

The day after President Joe Biden’s masterful condemnation of the fascist threat posed to the nation by MAGA Republicans’ mindless embrace of would-be tyrant Donald Trump, those Republicans are ... doubling down on their support for Donald Trump.

“I believe the soul is the breath, the live, and the essence of who are are … the soul of America, that all are created equal in the image of God … and democracy must be defended, because democracy makes all these things possible.” That’s the core of Biden’s message from his Thursday address, and Republicans immediately lined up against that. Against democracy. Like this one:

Truly the best, though, and by best I mean most utterly shameless is House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy. Fresh off of his “prebuttal” to Biden’s speech in which he confused an entire nation by invoking the “electric cord of liberty,” which he said “still sparks in our hearts.” Which maybe had something to do with Abraham Lincoln?

Anyway, McCarthy kicked off this Friday with this:

🚨 NEW → Just put AG Merrick Garland and FBI Director Christopher Wray on notice for their appearance in public hearings before @JudiciaryGOP concerning the unprecedented raid on President Trump’s home.

Garland and Wray must be quaking in their shoes. But McCarthy really takes the cake with his timing on that demand. Because while he was sending that out, the nation was learning more about all those documents that Trump stole from the nation seized by the FBI in their search. And it’s damning.

It’s particularly damning considering what wasn’t in the documents: the contents of 88 folders that are empty, 46 of them carrying markings to indicate the contents were classified, and 42 that indicated they were to have been returned to a military aide.

Who knows where the documents are—mixed in with Trump’s Sharpie collection and fan mail or the socks and underwear or in a safe somewhere in Riyadh or Moscow. All bets are off on that. But when the Justice Department and the FBI find out where they are, and chances are very good they will, something else might be sparking for McCarthy.

Donald Trump and his MAGA allies came close to overthrowing our democracy on January 6, and they will try again if they win in 2022.
