People like Republican Sen. Josh Hawley have a pathological lack of shame. It should be the kind of thing that sends voters running for the hills but in this day and age, but instead if it lifts him up the MAGA food chain towards the top of the fascist pyramid. You might remember his big power first sign to the Jan. 6, insurgents, which was followed up with video showing the pretend patriotic senator running away from the mob as they began doing exactly what he and his fellow big lie coup d’etat promoters told them to do. At the time, former D.C. police officer Michael Fanone, who was attacked and injured defending our Capitol that day, told media that his first response to seeing the video of Hawley running brought this to his mind:
“Josh Hawley is a bitch. And he ran like a bitch….that guy’s a clown…No honor.”
But Hawley’s bitchitude knows no bounds. He has, like many conservatives, decided that the best target for his manly masculinity and leadership skills is children and teachers. Specifically, he wants to attack marginalized kids from LGBTQ+ communities across the country. He also dislikes women; something in his tiny heart dies when he is confronted by educated women, and something shrivels up for him when he is confronted by educated women of color. But it is all of a piece with Mr. Hawley. On Wednesday, the Hawley team sent out an email that nailed down everything we need to know about Josh Hawley and the Republican Party’s views on the LGBTQ+ community, women, education, you name it.
And they were able to do it in a very short email!
Le douche bag.
The New York Times’ Kenneth Vogel screenshotted a fundraising email from the Josh Hawley camp. The email says, “Kenneth, Blue states are teaching kids transgender propaganda in schools when they’re as young as first graders.” The email goes on to say that these “teachings go against nature, science, and common sense — but this is what Liberals want our children to learn.” And then, in bold lettering, the missive stipulates that they “want to keep social lies OUT [sic] of the classroom.” The click-through of this email is a survey asking the recipient to choose between two options—each in a block of red:
“YES — Keep transgender propaganda OUT”
and
No — Teach young children there is more than one gender.”
The GOP is so Christian at this point that they don’t even recognize more than one gender anymore? I mean, with the archaic theocracy they’ve appointed to our Supreme Court, I guess women don’t count whatsoever, so that maybe makes sense?
The responses have been predictably fantastic. But before we get to those responses, let’s remember Josh Hawley on Jan. 6, 2021.
Now to the responses.
But think about it!
A classic.
A political classic.
Woke tu, Brute?
And from the funny because Republicans think it’s true category of double irony:
And then one for the Bible folks!
The passage would mean something if Hawley really read the Bible beyond his own greed and vanity.
“There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”
Donald Trump and his MAGA allies came close to overthrowing our democracy on January 6, and they will try again if they win in 2022. The best thing you can do is to help get out the Democratic vote for the midterms, and we need everyone to do what they can. Click here to find all the volunteer opportunities available.
Pssst. Want to learn how competitive your House district is? Daily Kos Elections just released a massive new data set that breaks down the results of the 2020 presidential election for every last one of the nation's new congressional districts, so we're dissecting what it all means on The Downballot with longtime DKE writer Stephen Wolf. Wolf explains why these numbers closely predict the outcome of most House elections, how they show the way in which the overall playing field has grown even more tilted toward Republicans, what the most evenly divided district in the country is, and much more.
