They think that they can intimidate us and rile up their supporters with inference and outright calls to violence. There are companies that are either actively or passively enabling this very dangerous rhetoric. They are treating such discussions as first amendment protected political speech even though they know that it is not. This is a very dangerous attack on democracy perpetuated by foreign actors. There is an ongoing systematic attack not only upon democracy in the United States but around the world. They are using deceitful demagoguery, across social media, to enrage law abiding people to turn to violence. Some of these companies are not only enabling such rhetoric but are actively encouraging it.
The party of Ronald Reagan would never have tolerated such inference or outright calls to violence. Sadly, that party is long gone. It has been corrupted by foreign actors. This corruption has crept into the highest levels of federal, state and local government. They are so blinded by lust for power that they have given up on all of the things that our parents and grandparents have fought for. The lessons of two world wars, McCarthyism, the cold war and Reaganism seem to have been wiped from the collective memory of nearly half of the country. Demagoguery and deceit have them worshipping a man that sold himself to the highest bidder. History will show that they all have inadvertently sold us out to the worst monster since Adolph Hitler if not all time.
They think that there is nothing we can do about it. From a criminal point of view, we are effectively paralyzed in all three branches of government. In some states the state itself is the actual perpetrator. Calls for another civil war are being echoed in some states around the country. Not only are these companies not condemning it but, in some cases, they are actually amplifying it. Any attempts to punish this behavior are met with a rallying cry around the first amendment.
However, there is something we can do. A block of one hundred million people that collectively boycotted any company that did not outright condemn such violent rhetoric would be a major voice. Such a boycott might not directly sway the likes of Fox News. However, a boycott of companies that enable them to continue to incite violence could be very effective. Advertisers would flee in droves. If the president were to call on all Americans to boycott such companies this would be an even more effective force.
We cannot allow this to become the new norm.
