Our friend funningforrest was scheduled to host the Chorus today (and in fact queued it a few weeks ago) but we have a slight change of plan. ff checked in at the Daily Bucket yesterday to say he’s been in the hospital the past 5 days after emergency surgery. He said he’s offline at the hospital, and even if he wasn’t, I doubt this would be a great day for him to be fielding comments. It would be a shame to have his really nice diary go up without his participation. So I hope folks don’t mind if we postpone his Dawn Chorus for a few weeks.
We’re sending birdy best wishes for a speedy and uncomplicated recovery, funningforrest! Rest up, obey the medicos, and we are looking forward to having you back amongst us when you’re feeling better. Sounds like you’re in good hands and things will be better now.
So in the meantime I’m throwing out an open thread for our Dawn Chorus today. For photos, I’m turning to the 25th annual Studio Tour we have on Labor Day weekend, on the island where I live in northwest Washington state. It’s an event where people drive around to the studios of island artists to see where they work, talk with the artists and maybe buy their creations. There’s a whole range of media, subjects and styles. Several of my nearby neighbors do wonderful bird related pieces. Posted below are photos of some of those, from their personal studio pages and from what I have in my house.
My good friend and next door neighbor Nancy Bingham is primarily a ceramicist who creates what she calls functional pottery (plates, bowls, cups, etc) but she also paints watercolors.

Down the road, Rick Wigre works in a variety of media. I like this painting of Snow Geese.

Karen Hattman lives a few houses down from my house. I really like her work, which is mostly of birds, in watercolor and wood sculpture. Here are a few of her creations.

What’s up in your birdy world this week?
