Climate change is growing every year, the number of storms recorded in Gulf of Mexico has increased significantly according to NOAA and POW weather forecast. This La Niña episode has taken everyone by surprise with devastating flood in the West California and drought in the East Pacific. Both hemispheres is suffering severely from climate change.
Maldives is a small island South West off the coast of India and Sri Lanka. This picture was taken after Tsunami 2004.
This island has extended its generosity too long. Climate change and developments has changed its natural beauty. The sand is largely gone and dead corals are exposed on the beach. The difference on these images from 1995 to post Tsunami 2004 is clear from scientists observation.
ENSO La Niña is a phenomenon that has a drastic change in both hemisphere. Scientists, explorer in the Pacific Ocean, Gilbert Walker, made these observations in the 1980’s. Before it was not as significant as it is now.
Leader across the globe need to prepare a plan for climate Solutions such as:
Green infrastructure in every region:
This an example of Green infrastructure
North America 🇺🇸 is the third largest country in the world with 528 millions people, over 312 millions > half live in the US second largest and 34 millions in Canada 🇨🇦.
US covers 3.8 million square miles ( 9.8 million square kilometers) 3rd largest country and 3rd largest population after China 🇨🇳 and India 🇮🇳.
Regions in North America 🇺🇸
Temperate region
Tropical region
Desert region
Tropical region
Tundra region
Every region is different, temperature varies on different latitude.
Food security around the world depends on all these factors:
1 seasons/ weather , temperature,
2. Soil quality & land maintenance
3 water 💦 conservation, rivers
4. Biodiversity & ecological services
Green infrastructure in cities & Agricultural Reform are parallel.
1. Native species/ natural selection & habitat and desired selection need to improve in order to balance Carbon cycle, thus prevent soil erosion, maintain run off during flood
Each region has different temperature, soil and different mechanisms and support , for example:
Green infrastructure in
DESERT LAND
There are 2500 species of Cacti 🌵 in the world, a square mile of desert land can store 180, 000 tons of water. Saguaro cactus can live up to 200 years, absorbing Carbon.
Green infrastructure in
TROPICAL REGION
FLORIDA is one of the largest artesian ( aquifer) spring in the world with 550 million gallon of water.
Green infrastructure in the
GREAT PLAINS, grassland in the US, 500 miles(!805 km)➡️ Montana, Kansas,Colorado, Oklahoma,Wyoming, Nebraska, South Dakota, Texas, New Mexico. Great Plains are subjected to extreme weather temperature, -40 degrees Fahrenheit in Winter and 104 degrees Fahrenheit in summer. Grass is the ultimate survivor and able to withstand all kind of conditions. Grass has the ability to conserve water and survive long periods of extreme heat ( wildfires) and drought.
Why is this important?
Green infrastructure will balance Greenhouse gas, improve respiration in major cities, cut emissions by half. North America covers 2/3 of the continent diversity of forest types from boreal forest of Canada, to Tropical & subtropical Central America.
A healthy planet needs healthy forest, without trees we could not exist. The city can’t breath from menacing heat wave & flood from climate Change.
Forest has been on earth for 385 millions years.
