Atmospheric dust may have hidden true extent of global heating
Dust, along with synthetic particulate pollution, can cool the planet in several ways. These mineral particles can reflect sunlight away from the Earth and dissipate cirrus clouds high in the atmosphere that warm the planet
Increased atmospheric dust is masking greenhouse gases' warming effect, finds study

How does dust help with global warming?
Our planet's temperature depends heavily on dust
Lighter mineral dust will scatter solar radiation in random directions, diverting heat from Earth's surface, keeping it cooler.Jul 22, 2022

NYTIMES Should We Block the Sun to Counter Climate Change?
5 days ago — Once a taboo idea thought too dangerous to research, geoengineering is becoming more mainstream
Last month, a two-person start-up company by the name of Make Sunsets claimed that it had launched weather balloons filled with reflective sulfur particles into the sky somewhere over the coast of Baja California. More provocation than experiment, the launch was a first-of-its-kind field test of a climate intervention known as geoengineering: a branch of speculative technology that promises to counteract and even reverse global warming by altering Earth’s atmosphere.google

One simple graph shows why we need to study ways of reflecting sunlight to cool the Earth

KEY POINTS
- For the first time, the quadrennial U.N.-backed Montreal Protocol assessment report included an entire chapter addressing stratospheric aerosol injection, more colloquially called solar geoengineering.
- It's a way to cool the atmosphere by injecting sunlight-reflecting particles, similar to what happens naturally with volcanic eruptions.
- A simple concept graph included in the report visually represents the way in which solar geoengineering ought to be thought of — as a temporary stopgap measure.

What are the negative effects of geoengineering?
3 Disadvantages of Geoengineering
1. It introduces unknown climate risks. Geoengineering projects could alter Earth systems in unintended ways. Since the side effects of iron seeding or aerosol injections cannot be fully known unless put into practice, these initiatives present moral hazards to scientists.Jun 7, 2021

Biodiversity loss includes the worldwide extinction of different species, as well as the local reduction or loss of species in a certain habitat, resulting in a loss of biological diversity. The latter phenomenon can be temporary or permanent, depending on whether the environmental degradation that leads to the loss is reversible through ecological restoration/ecological resilience or effectively permanent (e.g. through land loss). The current global extinction (frequently called the sixth mass extinction or Anthropocene extinction), has resulted in a biodiversity crisis being driven by human activities which push beyond the planetary boundaries and so far has proven irreversible.
