I’m busy at work with my new job. But a WaPo article (written by a Black man) that is basically concern-trolling VP Harris is too much for me to bear.
The icing on the cake for me, the quote that put me over the edge? The remarks from DailyKos’ beloved Elizabeth Warren.
Underlining the concerns, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), speaking on Boston radio station WGBH on Friday, shied away from a full endorsement of Harris as Biden’s 2024 running mate. Asked if the president should seek reelection, Warren responded quickly, “Yes, he should run again.” But asked if Harris should be his running mate, she said, “I really want to defer to what makes Biden comfortable on his team.”
She likes Harris, Warren added, “but they need — they have to be a team.” She added quickly that she does not see any problems, but it was a notably noncommittal remark for an influential senator to make about her party’s second-in-command.
On Sunday, Warren issued a statement seeking to downplay her comments, saying, “I fully support the president’s and vice president’s re-election together, and never intended to imply otherwise."
I’m usually pretty supportive of Senator Warren, but that was some serious double-speak bullshit.
Yes, I know the article is behind a paywall and I am sorry about that. But this article filled with quotes from “anonymous Democrats” just infuriates me. I’m so pissed off at all the subtly-implied racism and sexism (some of it is not subtle at all) I could spit nails…
Erick Allen, chair of the Cobb County Democrats, counts himself as a Harris loyalist but said he recognizes the forces in the party — and the country — pushing against her.
“There’s a segment that just will not vote for a woman for president, and there’s another segment that will not vote for an African American. Having two of those check boxes, you’re just going to have a higher threshold regardless,” Allen said. “Hillary had just one of those checks, and she was able to be vilified and beat up to the point where she couldn’t recover.”
As for Democrats, he said, “There are some people in our party who are saying, ‘We already have hurdles. Let’s not create more.’”
Okay. That’s it. That last remark right there? In an article written by a Black male reporter, no less? That right there makes me absolutely furious.
No, the reporter himself didn’t say it. He’s quoting Erick Allen who is also a Black man. And I know I’m going out on a limb here as a cisgender White man criticizing both women and Black men. But as a diehard K-Hive member since 2010, the obvious misogyny and, yes, racism on display here just makes me mad as hell.
It’s bad enough to see Representative Barbara Lee—my #1 choice to replace Senator Feinstein in California—get almost zero support on DailyKos. But this article to go up on the front page of the Washington Post and be front & center on the site for going on 2 hours makes my blood boil.
Seriously, talented, intelligent and competent Black women seem to get so little respect on DailyKos. Then to see Vice President Harris get constantly, repeatedly second-guessed, maligned and criticized on the Washington Post at the literal top of the front page just makes me want to scream.
I’ll take the heat for what I am about to say—the hell with Katie Porter. And thank you to Adam Schiff for his many years of service. But the fact Barbara Lee is getting no love on DailyKos really drives it home for me. Kamala, Barbara and God only knows how many other Black women serving in local, state and federal government do not get their due. They do not get the love, respect and praise, let alone recognition they absolutely deserve.
Black women bust their goddamn butts, put all their blood, sweat and tears into helping us defeat Trump and the Republican Party. Yet the old—and yeah, I do mean OLD—tired White liberals and “progressives” keep brownnosing all the straight White people. Where is the support for Vice President Harris, for Representative Lee and all the Black women out there fighting for *all* of us?
I’m sick and tired of watching DK posters kissing Katie Porter’s behind and bowing & praying in front of her bullshit whiteboard schtick. Completely over it. I won’t donate money to her. I do not like her and I don’t support her. It would be a lot easier to do so if all the racist, misogynistic silence heaped onto Black women like Harris and Lee didn’t turn my stomach so damn hard.
The silence and lack of support for Black women on DailyKos is, in my humble and yes, I know, insignificant opinion is deafening. No one here seems to care outside of Black Kos and K-Hive diehards like Denise and Onomastic.
I’m sorry. I know I’m ranting. But I can’t help but be furious at how Porter and Hillary get diary after diary after diary—and Harris and Lee do not get shit from people on this site. They get next to nothing. Rip Kamala to shreds? Nobody on DailyKos cares. Genuflect and grovel in front of Porter and her grandstanding with a whiteboard (BORED NOW!)...cheer and celebrate Adam Schiff running for Feinstein’s seat—and Barbara Lee gets single digit support for running for the same seat?
Seriously, WTF?
Okay, I’ve ranted. I’ve raged. I’ve vented my spleen and I’m probably going to get slammed for it. Or this diary is D.O.A. But I had to get this off my chest.
You all can go back to ignoring Black women in public office like you normally do. Or bitching and complaining that Fani Willis and Tish James have “betrayed” you and every other Democrat because they haven’t gotten Trump convicted yet.
I love DailyKos, but this double-standard bullshit pisses me the hell off. God bless Kamala and Barbara and Tish and Fani. Okay. Done now.
UPDATE:
OMG. It’s been up at the top of the website home page for 8 hours straight--and it is still the #1 most read story on WaPo. Over 1500+ comments and still going. Heavy sigh…
