For a long time now, the right wing of the country has relied on classic propaganda tools of doublespeak and doublethink to sell the very transparent corruption of their philosophies. One of the many ways they have created the false narrative that they are in support of Americans and workers and are not simply the lackeys of corporations and the billionaire class is to appropriate once-radical cultural touchstones. The easiest and quickest way to do this is to use music.
Of course, 99 times out of 100, the artists that they are pretending to have some allegiance to cannot stand them. Whether it is Ronald Reagan attempting to align himself with Bruce Springsteen or the myriad rock acts that told Donald Trump to stop using their music at rallies, the facts of the matter are that conservatives suck chicken butt. They aren’t cool because they are conservative. Whether or not they enjoy “cool” music doesn’t change the fact that they’ve missed all of the countercultural points inherent in cool music.
On Monday, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, now pivoting vaguely in the direction of pretending she hasn’t always been an antisemitic space laser conspiracy theorist and insurrectionist, decided to celebrate the clown car fire that was the Kevin McCarthy speaker saga last week by putting together a boring video of her entering her office at the Capitol. She posted it to her Twitter account with the half-vague threat “It’s time to begin.. and they can’t stop what’s coming.” How can MTG top how full of hypocrisy she is? She grabbed a well-loved hip-hop song to be her soundtrack.

The song Greene pulled from is the 1999 Dr. Dre release “Still D.R.E,” featuring Snoop Dogg. The opening piano and beat is iconic, driving, and sort of awesome. It is all of the stuff Marjorie Taylor Greene is not. After opening with a shot of the Capitol building and a quick flash of a transphobic sign, the opening sounds of the song—all original music created and sampled for Dre—plays.
The responses to Greene’s newest foray into being a ghastly person came fast and furious. TMZ spoke with the legendary producer and performer Dr. Dre, who told them "I don’t license my music to politicians, especially someone as divisive and hateful as this one." Here’s an initial response we can all agree upon.
