This video shows how quickly a Sora can disappear back into the grasses. One person on the viewing platform flinched getting his camera, and the Sora was gone.
Having a camera that can take many photos per second, I was able to get some other still shots.
Not often do you get a chance for a clear view.
There always seems to be vegetation in front of the bird.
But then your wish comes true, and the Sora walks into the open.
But only for a blink.
This is what I saw through the viewfinder. The other shots are all cropped for a closer look.
Some in our group would say this was ‘the end’ of the sequence. Wrong this time.
This is the typical side view.
But I like seeing the bird from the back, too.
And a close-up of the head and bill.
Another typical pose, but a different area of the mud flat.
Now I want to find the Virginia Rail. That will have to wait for another time.
After waiting for an hour and not seeing any more action of the Sora, I headed to a different part of the park. Here I saw some Wood Ducks playing King of the Piling.
I want that spot.
First step, gain some altitude.
Next step: show some attitude!
How close do I need to get for him to get the hint?
Mission accomplished.
The new ‘Wood Duck King.’
