Sovereign lands are home to people and cultures that predate the United States. The Diné (Navajo), Hopi and Apache have called this home long before the colonizers and the attempts to eliminate, terminate and take the land away from the Indigenous communities. These lands are rich with a history of democracy and justice.
Power in Northeast Arizona resides in Native voices and voters. Generations of dissenters, leaders, storytellers and activists have given us our voice to continue the fight. It is our responsibility to carry on the work of those before us and grow the power on our homelands and beyond. We must stand up for what is right and fight for sovereignty and democracy. With your help we can expand our work on the ground in 2024.
The Northeast Arizona NativeDemocrats are changing what's possible politically in Arizona with national implications.
-
In 2020, Indigenous communities in Arizona had record-breaking turnout and elected Joe Biden and Kamala Harris and sent Mark Kelly to the United States Senate
-
In 2022 voters in sovereign lands in our turf saw the only voter turnout increase in the state over 2018 and elected AG Kris Mayes by a narrow 281 vote margin, we helped elect Gov. Katies Hobbs, SOS Adrian Fontes, and Sen. Mark Kelly.
In 2024 the stakes are just as high as 2020 and 2022, Democracy is still on the ballot, the right hasn’t stopped their attacks on our freedoms and families. We know voters in Northeast Arizona are critical to retaining the White House and growing the Senate majority and we know that our county wide elections will impact who gets to vote and how they vote in our communities. EVERY race on our 2024 ballot is important. In order to build on the work we have done since 2019 we need to invest in our field team to make sure they stay on the ground and continue their important work.
We haven’t taken time off and we don’t plan on it either. Our campaign has been on the ground engaging voters since January 2023. Our skilled field team has:
-
Checked, updates and registered nearly 1000 voters
-
Trained over 65 volunteer Family Votes Organizers
-
Launched our Youth Votes program
-
Canvassed door to door in communities all across northern Navajo Nation.
-
Answered 100s of questions from our postcards to voters recipients
-
Hosted Hopi Listening Tour events
-
Presented at multiple events across sovereign lands
-
Relaunched our Cafe 6 virtual community conversations
-
Hosted many high trafficking canvassing events at flea markets and vendor markets in the region
-
Hosted multiple community service projects, delivering more than 300 backpacks and school supplies, passed out winter necessities and delivered literal tons of wood and coal to community members.
This year we have an opportunity to flex our power and elect Jonathan Nez to Congress. The former Navajo Nation President just launched his bid to become the first Indigenous member of Congress from Arizona. We will support the Nez campaign by engaging the electorate in remote communities, voters who our relational organizers have long standing relationships with, voters who need an extensive investment of time and energy to get to the polls successfully. Voters who can only be reached by family members who have been trained by our team.
We are also ready to deliver for Ruben Gallego and Joe Biden whose leadership is needed to protect the rights of the voters in our communities. Needed to improve the lives of community members who need access to economic opportunity, clean water and quality education.
Our team understands what’s at risk and we won't stop fighting. Please chip in to keep our team on the ground to deliver again in 2024.
