America’s premier Wall Street robber-baron suggested that Democrats vote for Nikki Haley to “You know, get a choice, on the Republican side, that might be better than Trump,”. Jamie Dimon of JPMorgan chase Made this suggestion, as he gave his endorsement along with a likely fat check.
If you are on this site, this seems a preposterous as breaking the glass and pulling the fire alarm at work. I have walked by the fire alarm thousands of times and never had a moment where breaking that glass is appropriate. Likewise, I never thought registering with the opposite party and voting in their primary would be necessary or appropriate.
Do we have a fire in the building, called democracy, where we need to break the glass early, or wait until November, in the hopes that Biden can put it out?
There are two opportunities to vote against Donald Trump. Do we skip the first opportunity and hope the second opportunity is good enough?
There are red states where the Republican is guaranteed the electoral votes. If you like in West Virginia or Oklahoma, your state’s electoral points will be going to the Republican. Why not stop Trump on the front end? Just because you vote for Haley in the primary does not mean you have to vote for her in the general election.
So why would we chance putting a more competitive candidate against Biden? Trump is a guaranteed loser, who will get roundly trounced by Biden, correct? In 2021, that was a given, but now?
In the last few months, Trump is not shy about declaring himself America’s next dictator. His lawyers declared that he did not take the oath to support the constitution. He threatened news organizations “pay, for their illegal activity” for reporting negative things about him. All his enemies, meaning all of us not in the red hat brigade, are referred to as vermin, just like Hitler did with his non-supporters. Putin and Kim are smart and strong, while democratically elected leaders are weak, crooks or deadbeats. His supporters are forming into a violent insurgent faction who ransacked the United States Capitol and declared they would take a bullet for him. His radical declarations and actions happen on a daily basis and most America are getting desensitized. We know it is a five-alarm fire!
If Trump is that big of a problem, shouldn’t we do everything to stop him as early as possible? Do we risk letting him make it to the general election? Do we sit by and let Republicans burn democracy to the ground, while we helplessly sit by and hope an 80-year-old with weak polling numbers saves the day? Maybe it’s time for us to break the glass in the upcoming Republican primary.
