Mothers Against Greg Abbott PAC and Mothers For Democracy have released this video on the 11th anniversary of the Sandy Hook school shooting. The organizations say it is to highlight the "hypocrisy" of those who say the phrase, 'thoughts and prayers', but do nothing to save the children.
Here is the link to this extraordinarily powerful ad. It ends with the powerful moral statement
Thought and Prayers are Meaningless When You Can Act.
It reminded me of a verse in Matthew 4:7 —
Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. (King James Version).
But in the various translations I saw of this verse, about half use the word “tempt”, and the rest use the clearer word “test”:
“Jesus answered him, ‘It is also written: “Do not put the Lord your God to the test.”
In other words, Jesus is saying “Don’t demand of God that He solve your problems”. In other words, “Don’t pester God with your prayers when you can do something to solve the problem yourself.”
