New York Governor Kathy Hochul has called a special election on February 13, 2024 to fill the NY-03 left vacant by George Santos’s resignation. The deadline for registration is 10 days before on February 3, 3024. This map (also above) shows the cities and towns in NY-03. (It also encompasses parts of Queens, including Bayside and Whitestone.)

9,000 18-year olds can determine the special election to replace George Santos in NY-03.
There are also five colleges in the District: LIU (formerly CW Post), SUNY College at Old Westbury, US Merchant Marine Academy, NY College of Health Professionals and the Webb Institute. And bordering on the District are Hofstra, Adelphi and Nassau Community College, where there are likely many young voters from NY-03.
The youth vote, including the high school and college vote is the key to Democrats’ victory in this and every election. Simon Rosenberg reminds us today in Dems just keep outperforming expectations:
A new gold standard Harvard/IOP youth poll (2098 interviews) has Biden up over Trump with likely 18-29 year old voters 57%-33% (+24). +24 was Biden’s margin in 2020 according to the Exit polls. . . . Another recent poll showed “Among youth who say they’re extremely likely to vote, 51% prefer a Democratic candidate in 2024, 30% a Republican, and 16% are undecided,”
It’s easier than ever to register to vote in NY because the State has recently made it possible for anyone to register to vote on line:
If you have a NY drivers license you can register at this link.
If you live in NYC and don’t have a drivers license you can register at this link.
If you live outside of NYC and don’t have a drivers license you can register at this link.
The Civics Center is a non-partisan group dedicated to registering young voters. Consider:
Donating to support the efforts of The Civics Center. All funds obtained through this link between now and the special election will go to support our work in New York.
Volunteering with The Civics Center to contact schools and parents groups about having voter registration drives in NY-03 or anywhere else. Email me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you’re interested.
Repeating a version of the poll in my prior diary:
