Fox News, a subdivision of Fox Corporation, is not a news organization by any rational or accepted definition. The revelations of the Dominion Voting Systems lawsuit have proven that beyond all reasonable doubt. Rupert and Lachlan Murdoch, CEO Suzanne Scott, and several high-profile anchors have only financial interests in mind when making decisions about what to air. As Rupert Murdoch famously stated, “It is not red or blue, it is green.” To them, truth is irrelevant. Such is the way of American capitalism. Fox News will continue to spread lies as long as it is deemed profitable.
While Rupert may have indicated some differences of opinion about what was being said on air, he did nothing to stop it. Further, he indicated he would not take action against any of the key personnel, and not fire Scott. Lachlan, who seems to believe the lawsuit is a joke, praised Suzanne Scott for her leadership. As long as Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, and others continue to attract millions of viewers, nothing of consequence will happen to them. The same is not true for the American public which is experiencing increased threats to public officials. That is specifically attributed to Tucker Carlson’s aberrational depiction of the events of 6 January, 2021.
In so doing, the Murdochs have laid out the only effective approach left to the general public. Since it is “green,” they worship above all else, that flow should be diminished. The FNC generally undereducated, and informationally-sheltered, viewing audience is unlikely to abandon their factitiously-induced inebriation. Therefore, the approach should be to substantially constrict their revenue source from sponsors. That can be done by reinforcing the demand for truth in reporting.
We can forget about coconspirators like the My Pillow nut, Mike Lindell, and focus on the others that appear oblivious complicity in anti-democracy-oriented actions. Let them know that they are partially responsible for the continued distribution of false information that daily continues to undermine America.
Losing sponsors is the only thing that will convince Fox Corporation to change their ways. To that end, I have drafted and transmitted the following letter to the sponsors I have identified. Feel free to use these words as you see fit, change, or add your own. Most important, let those sponsors know you care about truth and American democracy.
Name of company president
Address
As most people know, you often are judged by the company you keep. The same is true for organizations. It appears you choose to align with, and support Fox News. Strikingly, please note a comment about their programming by Fox News president, Jay Wallace, “The North Koreans do a more nuanced show.”
By now you must be aware of the revelations by Fox News officials that they intentionally lied to their audience following the 2020 election. That mode of operation continues to this day. You now know that the Fox News anchors, and their most senior officials (including Rupert Murdoch and CEO Suzanne Scott) absolutely knew what they were broadcasting was false information. Yet, putting profit, over truth and ethics, or as Rupert Murdoch stated in his deposition, “it is not red or blue it is green.” For a litany of statements from Fox News key people regarding the election lies they told, see this Washington post article, https://www.washingtonpost.com/media/2023/03/10/fox-news-lawsuit-key-players/?utm_campaign=wp_news_alert_revere_trending_now&utm_medium=email&utm_source=alert&location=alert
At Fox News and News Corp they made the conscious decision to lie to the American people, many of whom who were foolish enough to trust them. Those lies contributed directly to the infamous events at the U.S. capitol on 6 January, 2021.
Now, your company is directly contributing to that network in general, and Tucker Carlson in particular, as they engage in a concerted effort to undermine American democracy. There is no doubt about the accuracy of that statement. A choice you need to make is whether or not you choose to continue with that complicity by purchasing advertisement on that network. Are you willing to align your company with these established liars and put profit over America. If so, you bear equal responsibility for their egregious actions and your company’s reputation synonymous with Fox News disgrace and untrustworthiness.
Yes, their generally undereducated base is comprised of potential customers. And maybe ethics, morality and loyalty to America are not as important to you as your temporary bottom line. That would be (was) what Rupert and Fox News decided, and they continue that line today. If that is the reputation you choose for your company, that is your choice. Just be aware, that in so doing it is the company you keep, and you are complicit in the undermining of America and our democracy. There are many other venues and, if not already, please take your business to democracy affirming platforms.
Sincerely
