I REALLY DON’T CARE DO U? Melania’s fashion statement was perfection itself. It summed up the moral vacuum underpinning the family business. She wore it to normalize tormenting children. Her message has not gone out of style for our ethically challenged Republican brothers and sisters. No doubt, Melania’s motto is efficient. It cuts to the chase inviting deplorables to join the in-crowd and covers a lot of territory.
Unfortunate for us, they were allowed to occupy The White House, and train their Party in the fine of art of wrecking everything in their path that’s not nailed down. Sure, they’d had their moments before, but training matters.
Fast forward to Dobbs and Red-State governments, undisciplined, unsupervised and giddy with power. Incoherent laws written with malice make poor medical protocol. Banning abortion essentially bans responsible reproductive health care.
Physicians cannot ethically practice medicine with untrained elected officials squirrelled between themselves and their patients. Most doctors are unwilling to risk ruin and jail time.
“Citing demographics and Idaho’s legal and political climate around health care as reasons,” Sandpoint’s Bonner General Hospital will no longer provide obstetrical services.
Rocket Red Idaho’s elected state officials are running off obstetricians. Anyone in Sandpoint now has a “46 mile[ drive] for labor and delivery care.” ( yahoo!news 3/17/22 RE: the Idaho Statesman)
For care uncomplicated by politics, Spokane is considerably farther away.
Sandpoint Idaho is a community that actually has a hospital that, until May, could boast of obstetrical care and a neonatal unit. There is no shortage of communities with shuttered hospitals or communities that never had a hospital to shutter.
As if Covid fallout weren’t enough or for-profit tug-of-war couldn’t cripple medical care, legislative malpractice demonstrates the Party Motto for their target audience, “I REALLY DON’T CARE, DO U?”
